Fistulas plug: a new surgical technique to aid closure of chronic oroantral fistula
Conclusion: The present study offers the use of fistulas tract itself to act as a tissue plug of antral floor defect, using buccal or palatal flap on top of it; hence, double-layer closure could be easily achieved. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

The effect of using different crown and implant materials on bone stress distribution: a finite element study
Assessment of stress distribution on bone with a combination of two different dental implant materials and three different crown materials was performed in this study. A three-dimensional finite element model was constructed by a commercial finite element package. Three different crown materials (E-Max, gold alloy, zirconium core) were investigated. In addition, two different implant materials (titanium–zirconium) were tested simultaneously in six case studies. According to the finite element analysis results, changing crown materials showed different behaviors of stresses and deformation values on cortical and spongy bo...

Distraction osteogenesis versus sagittal split osteotomy in the treatment of mandibular retrognathia: a clinical study
Introduction: Mandibular retrognathia is the underdeveloped retruded position of the mandible to the maxilla. It might be due to condylar trauma or congenital conditions. Facial deformity and functional disabilities are the main reported complaints. Various treatment modalities have been advocated. Aim of the study: The present study aimed to compare bilateral sagittal split osteotomies (BSSOs) and distraction osteogenesis (DO) clinically and radiographically in treating and correcting mandibular retrognathia. Materials and methods: Twelve patients (eight female and four male), with ages ranging from 18 to 35 years, were t...

Position of mandibular canal and ramus morphology after sagittal split ramus osteotomy
Conclusion: The MC in class II was moved superiorly postoperatively with an increase in ramus width, whereas it was moved inferiorly in class III without changes in ramus morphology postoperatively. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Management of long-standing temporomandibular joint dislocation: case series
Conclusion: The cases of long-standing dislocation need to be defined according to the time and cause of dislocation, and more opinions are required to form practicable guidelines for management of each case individually. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Clinical and radiographic evaluation of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite bone graft in treatment of peri-implant defects in diabetic patients: a randomized, double-blind prospective cohort study
Conclusion: Within the limits of the present investigation, it can be concluded that both treatment modalities have shown predictable results over the 9-month study period; however, the application of NHA may result in more clinical and radiographic improvement of healing outcomes.
