How did the lack of resources modify the surgical practice but did not affect the outcome of immediate scalp reconstruction in a developing country?: a case series
Conclusion: In developing countries, the reconstructive modality used for a successful reconstruction of the scalp is greatly affected by the economic costs and oncological prognosis. Moreover, it is carefully tailored according to the defect characteristics and hospital resources. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Use of biodegradable plates and screws in the treatment of pediatric facial bone fractures
Conclusion: In our study, we concluded that the use of Inion bioresorbable plates is effective in the treatment of facial fracture in pediatric patients. There was no complication and no growth disturbance in the follow-up period, which proves that bioresorbable plates provide stable fixation in children. Our data support the use of bioresorbable plate fixation in pediatric craniofacial surgery as a means of avoiding the potential and well-documented problems associated with rigid metal fixation. A comparison of combined therapy of arthrocentesis and bite splint versus arthrocentesis alone in case of nonreducing temporomandibular disc displacement
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) derangement is a common disease of the stomatognathic system and nonreducing disc displacement is one type of this disorder, which is characterized by pain in the affected TMJ and decreased range of mouth opening. Our study aimed to compare the prognosis of combination therapy of arthrocentesis and occlusal splint versus arthrocentesis alone in cases of nonreducing temporomandibular disc displacement. Twenty patients with TMJ internal derangement without reduction were classified into two equal groups. Group I patients underwent combined therapy consisting of arthrocentesis and lavage of TMJ f...

The use of dextrose prolotherapy for myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome: a double-blind placebo-controlled study
The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of dextrose 5% prolotherapy for musculoskeletal pain in patients suffering from temporomandibular joint myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome with or without hypermobility. Dextrose prolotherapy, if widely used, could have a tremendous impact on reducing musculoskeletal pain and disability, thus improving population lifestyle and ability to work. Cranial nerve X and XII palsy (Tapia’s syndrome) as a postoperative complication of a neck abscess drainage: a case report
Glossolaryngeal ipsilateral paralysis was described by Antonio Garcia Tapia in 1904. The author reported the clinical presentation of a bullfighter, who had been hit in the mandible angle and suffered consequent injuries of the hypoglossal (XII) and pneumogastric (X) nerves. Typical symptoms of such injuries include lingual motility disturbances and swallowing difficulties. The present study describes a case of Tapia’s syndrome that arose as a postoperative complication of the drainage of a neck abscess. Furthermore, we present a literature review to define the possible pathogenetic mechanism of the lesion, and the endos...

Management of impure blowout fractures of orbit using a modified titanium mesh
Conclusion: Shape and size of the titanium mesh used in the present study was modified and reduced, thus making the repair of the orbital floor through transconjunctival incision effortless. Coupled with floor reconstruction, mesh also helps in reduction and fixation of the infraorbital rim eventually preventing the migration of mesh as well as the periorbital tissue into underlying sinuses. Furthermore, mesh is economically viable and reduces the operating time. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Cephalometric evaluation of soft-tissue changes in the upper and lower lips and chin after gap arthroplasty for the correction of temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis
Conclusion: The present study revealed downward movement of the soft tissue of upper lip, lower lip, and chin 3months postoperatively. The soft tissue of the chin also showed backward movement. These changes must be taken into consideration with surgical planning in postankylotic orthognathic surgery. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Dilemmas with faulty chest radiographs in case of missing teeth following trauma
Tooth aspiration following trauma is a rare complication that needs to be properly diagnosed and treated before it leads to dangerous consequences. Adult tooth aspiration is rare and pitfalls in diagnosis have been rarely documented. Accurate radiograph is a must for the management of foreign body aspiration. Here, we report a case of a faulty chest radiograph that showed a tooth shadow in left lung basal region in a patient with missing teeth, following trauma, along with various clinical and radiographic features of aspiration. A comparison of electrosurgery and cryosurgery in the management of benign mucosal lesions: a prospective randomized study
Conclusion: In conclusion, we state that both these treatment modalities have their own advantages and disadvantages. Cryosurgery is a promising treatment modality and can be considered for use on outpatient basis for the treatment of certain lesions. However, continued research at clinical as well as microscopic levels is necessary for proper assessment of wound-healing and long follow-up of patients.
