Assessment of the effect of gap arthroplasty on serum interleukin-1β in patients with temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis
Conclusion: The present study showed that patients with TMJBA have a significantly high level of serum IL-1β preoperatively. Gap arthroplasty and its relevant jaw mobilization have a direct effect on immunocompetence. This was apparent from the increased level of IL-1β postoperatively. Aggressive dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinus, originating from an ectopically erupted maxillary third molar: a case report
A dentigerous cyst (DC) arises from the reduced enamel epithelium and may extend into the surrounding bone, growing un-noticed to such extensive sizes as to occupy a considerable portion of the maxillary sinus. An ectopically erupted tooth associated with a DC in the maxillary sinus presents itself as a confounding problem, which may lead to maxillary sinusitis. A case of such a DC associated with an ectopic maxillary third molar tooth in the left maxillary sinus cavity is presented, which is of interest because of its less commonly occurring site and the age of the patient, who is only 15 years of age. Advanced imaging me...

Odontogenic myxoma of mandible – report of a case and review of literature
Odontogenic myxoma is a rare, benign mesenchymal intraosseous neoplasm which is nonencapsulated and is called ‘locally malignant’ on account of its exceptionally high local aggressiveness and nonmetastasizing nature. Intraosseous myxomas are rare, and those that are encountered are almost exclusively confined to the jaws. Among all the odontogenic tumors, odontogenic myxoma constitutes only 3–11%. Radical excision and a close follow-up are advocated by most surgeons to prevent recurrences. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

A megalith (giant sialolith) in Wharton’s duct: a case report and review of the literature
We report a case of a male patient aged 65 years with a complaint of pain and swelling in the right submandibular region, with perforation of the floor of the mouth causing a rare complication of sialolithiasis. Clinically the swelling was tender, and radiologically it was a large irregular radiopaque mass medial to the right mandibular premolar and molar areas. The sialolith was removed by means of the transoral approach under local anesthesia. Yellowish in color, it measured 40 20 mm and weighed 6.413 g. To conclude, to describe a patient with an unusually giant submandibular gland duct sialolith, its etiology, diagnosis...

Safety and esthetic refinement of methyl methacrylate cranioplasty using the patient head as a mould: our experience
We reported good clinical outcomes in all our patients. There was no immediate or delayed incidence of rejection, dehiscence, infection, brain tissue neuropathy, implant fracture, elevation, sinking, or rotation, with good cosmetic results. Cranioplasty can be successfully performed with self-cure poly methyl methacrylate material, which is an inexpensive material that is easily adapted and contoured intraoperatively to a defect of any size, has a great impact on resistance, and does not integrate into the surrounding tissues. Health-related quality of life in oral cancer survivors
Conclusion: About half of the patients who underwent primary treatment for oral cancer developed trismus and reported problems with eating and speech. Chewing was identified as the poorest rating domain and presented the highest proportion of complaints in the sample of this study. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Management of temporomandibular joint with anterior disc displacement with reduction by two different techniques
In conclusion, modified stabilizing splint with this new regimen is the selective treatment for recent ADDwR, especially if the disc is still intact and not deformed while arthrocentesis with modified stabilizing splint is indicated for aggravated symptomatic patients as a line of treatment.
