The impact of butorphanol in rat temporomandibular joint inflammation
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of butorphanol in formalin-induced temporomandibular joint (TMJ) inflammation in rats. Materials and methods: A total of 30 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups of 10 rats each – group 1, the saline control group: rats were subjected to TMJ injection of saline; group 2, the formalin control group: rats were subjected to TMJ injection of formalin and did not receive any treatment; group 3, the butorphanol-treated group: rats received TMJ injection of 0.4 mg/kg butorphanol 30 min after TMJ injection of formalin. ...

Osteogenesis of peri-implant dehiscence defects using a barrier membrane
Conclusion: This trial revealed that small to moderate bony defects can be treated with only the application of a barrier membrane. However, large bony defects (>6 mm2 area) require a grafting material under the membrane. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin versus platelet-rich fibrin block in ridge splitting technique with simultaneous implant placement: a clinical and radiographic study
This study was carried out on 30 patients with partial edentulous narrow anterior maxillary ridge. Patients were divided randomly into three equal groups (group I was treated with RST and simultaneous implant placement into their ridge without any bone graft; group II was treated with RST and simultaneous implant placement into their ridge associated with L-PRF; and group III was treated with RST and simultaneous implant placement into their ridge associated with a PRF block (L-PRF mixed with Easy-Graft Crystal). Amniotic membrane was used in all groups as a cover for distracted area under flaps. Patients were evaluated cl...

Changes in craniocervical angulation in patients with temporomandibular joint bony ankylosis
Conclusion: There was a significant increase in NSL/OPT and NSL/CVT (cranial base inclination upon the cervical column) and this was supported by a significant decrease in the AO distance in ankylosis patients. The CVT/horizontal angle was increased, indicating an increase in the inclination of the cervical column and more accentuation of lordosis curve in ankylosis patients. Reliability of discoraphy as a treatment modality for internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint
Internal derangement (ID) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) refers to an abnormal relationship between the mandibular condyle and the articular disc, and is considered the most common type of TMJ disorders. The derangement may occur in many ways, mainly disc placement with reduction and more commonly without reduction (closed lock). The main symptoms of closed lock are joint pain and limited mouth opening. In the present study, 14 patients aged 23–42 years with a mean age of 26 years were treated for closed lock. For each patient, plan tomography was performed preoperatively and at 6 and 12 months postsurgically. Doub...

Use of ethanolamine oleate in management of vascular lesions in oral region
Vascular lesions are benign lesions that are common in the head and neck. They can cause esthetic, functional, and psychological impairment. The most common site is the tongue. Treatment is primarily dependent on correct diagnosis of the lesion and on its anatomic location. The aim of this study was to use ethanolamine oleate in the management of vascular lesions in the oral region. Precise diagnosis and appropriate therapeutic management resulted in satisfactory esthetic and functional results, with complete resolution of the lesion and no sign of relapse at 6 months of follow-up.
