Bronchiectasis Revisited: Imaging-Based Pattern Approach to Diagnosis
Bronchiectasis is one of the causes of non-resolving, persistent or recurrent pulmonary infection which, if uncorrected may have deleterious consequences on the lung parenchyma and pulmonary circulation. High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is needed for the confirmation, localization and directing management accordingly. (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

The Impact of Gadolinium Deposition on Radiology Practice: An International Survey of Radiologists
Brain deposition of gadolinium following the administration of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) was initially reported in 2014. Gadolinium deposition is now recognized as a dose-dependent consequence of exposure. The potential clinical implications are not yet understood. The purpose of this study was to determine radiologists ’ reporting practices in response to gadolinium deposition. (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Ring Ring Ring! Characterising Telephone Interruptions During Radiology Reporting and How to Reduce These
Telephone calls remain one of the most frequent interruptions in radiology reporting rooms, despite modern electronic order communication systems. A call received by a radiology trainee during the hour before completing a report may increase the chance of a discrepancy by 12%. (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration: Successful Prospective Implementation of Strategies to Eliminate Unnecessary Biopsy in the Veteran Population
This study ’s aim was to evaluate characteristics of thyroid nodules in a largely older and male Veteran population and apply these findings prospectively to reduce unnecessary thyroid fine needle aspiration (FNA). (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Pancreatic Walled-Off Necrosis Eroding into the Inferior Vena Cava
We report an unusual case of a 63-year-old male with acute necrotizing pancreatitis in whom WON was eroding into the inferior vena cava resulting in its thrombosis. Our patient also had a bunch of other well-described complications of pancreatitis including splanchnic venous thrombosis. (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Patient Knowledge Regarding Colorectal Cancer Risk, Opinion of Screening, and Preferences for a Screening Test
To assess patient knowledge about colorectal cancer incidence and prognosis as well as willingness to undergo screening with various tests (eg, optical colonoscopy, stool-based tests, computed tomographic colonography (CTC)). (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Residents ’ Perceptions of Usage of the Current Alumni and Attending Network for a Formal Mentorship Program in an Academic Affiliated Community Hospital Radiology Residency
Mentor-mentee relationships within radiology residencies can add significant value to a resident ’s overall experience. Studies demonstrate that mentorship programs can increase satisfaction for residents and faculty alike by reducing stress, easing career related decisions, increasing involvement with research, improving teaching and communication skills, and finally increasing leadership ro les. In a survey of radiology program directors, 85% of program directors find such a program beneficial but only 57% have a formal program in place. (Source: Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology)

Convolutional Neural Networks: The Possibilities are Almost Endless
Interest in modeling the workings of the brain has plagued our species for centuries. With the advent of neuroscience, this became possible as neuron structure was discovered and further studied. Researchers in the mid-20th century began formulating “artificial neural networks,” architectures that mimicked the human brain through the use of hidden layers and mathematical activation functions likened to neuronal activity. Results were academically interesting, but network scale was limited by computational processing power and the availabili ty of usable, annotated datasets for refining tasks like visual recognition. (S...
