Publication date: Available online 4 November 2019Source: Comptes Rendus ChimieAuthor(s): Safoora Mohammadzadeh, Hamid R. Zare, Hossein KhoshroAbstractCuO–Cu2O (CuxO) nanosheets were coated on a copper foam substrate by the electrochemical anodization method in an alkaline solution. Constant current coulometry was performed to electrodeposit Ni nanorods on the surface of a Cu/CuxO electrode. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) proved that the copper oxide nanosheets were anchored on the copper foam substrate and modified by Ni nanorods (Cu/CuxO/Ni). The influence of coating-carbonization cycles toward P84 co-polyimide/nanocrystalline cellulose
This study introduces effective dip-coating methods for high-performance tubular carbon membrane production. On the basis of the outcome of this study, the coating-carbonization cycle (one, two, three, or four times) has been recognized as a major influence on the separation efficiency. Gas separation performance, selectivity, permeability, and the transport mechanism of the carbon membranes were adequately evaluated by pure O2 and N2. The PI/NCC scanning electron microscopy images show that all of the carbon membrane samples are composed of a dense structure, whereas the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis ex...

This study investigates the polymorphism of mefenamic acid in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) through the combination of molecular dynamic simulations and experimental study. The molecular dynamic simulations were performed using the Material Studio 5.5 simulation package with a Condensed-phase Optimized Molecular Potentials for Atomistic Simulation Studies (COMPASS) force field. The simulation trajectory files were analyzed for radial distribution functions to investigate the intermolecular interactions. The experimental study was performed by the cooling crystallization method with DMF as the solvent. The saturated solution...

The synthesis of sulphonated hypercrosslinked exchange resin for free fatty acid esterification
This study investigates the potential of sulphonated hypercrosslinked exchange resin (SHER), a newly synthesised catalyst for the esterification reaction. The experimental works were divided into two stages: (1) the synthesis and characterisation of the catalyst and (2) screening study on the esterification of FFAs in used cooking oil (UCO) using different types of ion-exchange resins. SHER was found to have excellent characteristics with high specific surface area (∼836 m2 g−1) and thermal decomposition temperature (398 °C). The SHER was then subjected to the esterification reaction and outperformed other catalyst...

Fabrication and characterisation of a polyamide thin-film composite membrane on a nylon 6,6 substrate for isopropanol dehydration
Publication date: Available online 19 September 2019Source: Comptes Rendus ChimieAuthor(s): Wan Zulaisa Amira Wan Jusoh, Sunarti Abdul Rahman, Abdul Latif Ahmad, Nadzirah Mohd MokhtarAbstractThin-film composite (TFC) is feasible for use in isopropanol (IPA) dehydration by pervaporation (PV) for its superior performance and strength. The hydrophobic substrate membrane allows the penetration of the diamine monomer into the pores, which leads to flux reduction. Furthermore, hydrophobic polymer is difficult for TFC deposition because of its strong and opposing characteristics. To solve this problem, hydrophilic nylon 6,6 (N66)...
