Recent trends in perfluorinated sulfoximines
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Anne-Laure Barthelemy, Emmanuel MagnierAbstractThe search for original perfluorinated moieties is a very modern and attractive challenge. Among the emergent groups, the S-perfluoroalkylated sulfoximines are very peculiar because of their structural diversity and promising properties. A literature survey shows that interest in these molecules is strongly increasing. This short review summarizes the recent works devoted to this topic.RésuméLa recherche de groupes fluorés originaux est un défi moderne de la chimie organique. Parmi ces...

Effect of fluorination on the stability of carbon nanofibres in organic solvents
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Nadiège Nomède-Martyr, Elodie Disa, Katia Guérin, Pierre Bonnet, Marc DuboisAbstractBeneficial effects of fluorination on the stability of carbon nanofibre (CNF) dispersion in organic solvents as a function of time are evidenced. Because of their excellent friction properties, fluorinated CNFs (CF0.85) can be used as nanoparticles of tribo-active phase in lubrication; however, they have to be added into a matrix. We have shown that mixtures of CF0.85 are more stable than CNF solutions. Investigations by ultraviolet–visible spectro...

Ring-closing metathesis of fluoroalkenes toward the synthesis of fluorinated heterocycles containing an oxaza bond
This study reports the ring-closing metathesis reaction of bisolefins, including a reluctant fluoroalkenes, linked with oxaza moiety. The resulting heterocycles were produced in high yields under high diluting conditions disfavoring the homodimerization side reaction of nonfluorinated double bond. The use of a mixture of solvents proved to be a good strategy to obtain the fluorinated heterocycles in fair to excellent yields. (Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie)

Fluorine in the Earth and the solar system, where does it come from and can it be found?
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Kenneth T. Koga, Estelle F. Rose-KogaAbstractThis review (1) presents a summary of the distribution of fluorine in different fluid (surficial, subterranean, metamorphic, and magmatic–hydrothermal–geothermal) and solid (oceanic and continental crust, mantle, and core) domains of the Earth, and various extraterrestrial materials and bodies (meteorites, planets and moons, and the Sun); (2) it provides an estimate of the total fluorine abundance for the Earth and in its dominant reservoirs contributing to the Earth's fluorine endowment...

Mesoscopic structural organization in fluorinated room temperature ionic liquids
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Fabrizio Lo Celso, Yukihiro Yoshida, Renato Lombardo, Charl Jafta, Lorenzo Gontrani, Alessandro Triolo, Olga RussinaAbstractThe presence of fluorous tails in room-temperature ionic liquids imparts new properties to their already rich spectrum of appealing features. The interest towards this class of compounds that are of ionic nature with melting point less than 25 °C is accordingly growing; in particular, compounds bearing relatively long fluorous tails have begun to be considered. In this invited presentation, we show recent result...

The main and recent syntheses of the N-CF3 motif
This article mainly focuses on the most recent and prominent studies.RésuméCette revue montre une vue d'ensemble des différentes voies de synthèse du groupe N-CF3. Ce motif peut être généré, soit à partir d'ions fluorure, soit par trifluorométhylation électrophile, nucléophile ou radicalaire. Nous avons focalisé en particulier la présentation sur les principales et les plus récentes approches.Graphical abstract (Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie)

Surface reactivity of uranium hexafluoride (UF6)
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Bertrand Morel, Ania Selmi, Laurent Moch, Jean-Michel Hiltbrunner, Mickael Achour, Rachid Benzouaa, Aurélien Bock, Laurent Jouffret, Pierre Bonnet, André Hamwi, Marc DuboisAbstractThe present article reviews a selection of results obtained in the AREVA/CNRS/UCA joint research laboratory. It focuses on interfaces formed by uranium hexafluoride (UF6) with chemical filter (purification), carbon (UF6 storage), and metallic substrate (corrosion). As a matter of fact, along the nuclear fuel cycle, metallic surfaces of the fluorination reac...

Fluorine-based plasmas: Main features and application in micro-and nanotechnology and in surface treatment
Publication date: August 2018Source: Comptes Rendus Chimie, Volume 21, Issue 8Author(s): Christophe CardinaudAbstractFluorine cold plasmas produced by an electrical discharge in SF6, CF4, CHF3 or C4F8 gases, principally, have two main fields of application. The first and historical application is etching of materials for microelectronics and later for micro- and nanotechnology. The second concerns the modification of surface properties, mostly in terms of reflectance and wettability. After an introduction to cold plasmas and plasma–surface interaction principles, the article aims at presenting successively the evolution ...
