Intracameral antibiotics for prophylaxis of postoperative endophthalmitis in Australia: a review
Postoperative endophthalmitis is a severe complication which may result in loss of vision. Intracameral antibiotics have been shown to reduce the risk of this complication and are extensively used worldwide, with vancomycin, cefuroxime and moxifloxacin most commonly used. Choices in Australia are currently limited to vancomycin and cefazolin, since cefuroxime and moxifloxacin are not available. Vancomycin has been safely and effectively used in our department for more than two decades. Recent publications have risen concerns regarding the association of haemorrhagic occlusive retinal vasculitis a potentially blinding compl...

Swept ‐source optical coherence tomography angiography features of sub‐retinal fibrosis in neovascular age‐related macular degeneration
Conclusions and RelevancePoorer VA in patients with nAMD and sub ‐retinal fibrosis is associated with presence of a detectable neovascular membrane on OCTA. The role of OCTA to guide nuanced management decisions in this patient population may be significant. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Optic nerve head perfusion changes preceding peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer thinning in preclinical diabetic retinopathy
Conclusions and RelevanceONH perfusion and peripapillary RNFL thickness were significantly decreased in preclinical DR patients compared to normal controls. Microvascular alterations in ONH may occur earlier than peripapillary RNFL defect in the course of DR. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Accuracy of scleral transillumination techniques to identify infant ciliary body for sclerostomy and intravitreal injections
Conclusions& RelevanceThe STI technique is a useful and fast technique to demonstrate the ciliary body. The mid ‐point of the dark band on STI correlates well with the UBM, and has a potential use for confirming safe‐entry into the posterior segment if using current guidelines. The current cadaver‐based pediatric guidelines safely avoid retinal injury. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Visual and ocular morbidity in severe open globe injuries presenting to a regional eye centre in New Zealand
Conclusions and RelevanceThe incidence and severity of OGI in NZ are comparable to global statistics. Surgical repair can effectively recover vision, predicted well by the OTS. We identified at ‐risk groups to target with education and prevention strategies. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)

Digital droplet polymerase chain reaction analysis of common viruses in the aqueous humour of patients with Posner ‐Schlossman syndrome in Chinese population
ConclusionsHCMV was the leading cause of pathogen ‐induced PSS in the Chinese population. DdPCR was a promising tool for early detection, accurate diagnosis, and therapeutic validity monitoring of pathogen‐induced PSS. The high sensitivity of ddPCR could avoid repeated anterior chamber tap. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology)
