Role of imaging in endometriosis
Endometriosis—the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity—is first suspected on the basis of its signs and symptoms. The diagnosis is confirmed by imaging and surgery. Imaging, particularly transvaginal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging, is essential to confirm the diagnosis and guide surgical treatment. (Source: Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine)

Heart failure in African Americans: Disparities can be overcome
African Americans are disproportionately affected by heart failure, with a high prevalence at an early age. Hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and chronic kidney disease are all common in African Americans and all predispose to heart failure. Neurohormonal imbalances, endothelial dysfunction, genetic polymorphisms, and socioeconomic factors also contribute. In general, the same evidence-based treatment guidelines that apply to white patients with heart failure also apply to African Americans. However, the combination of hydralazine and isosorbide dinitrate is advised specifically for African Americans. (Source: Cleveland Cli...

Managing advanced chronic kidney disease: A primary care guide
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common disorder that requires close collaboration between the primary care physician and nephrologist. Most aspects of early CKD can be managed in the primary care setting with nephrology input. As the disease progresses, many aspects of care should be transitioned to the nephrologist, especially as the patient nears end-stage renal disease, when dialysis and transplantation must be addressed.
