Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery for the treatment of different urological pathologies: Defining the learning curve of an experienced laparoscopist
Conclusion In experienced hands, at least 30 LESS procedures are required to achieve professional competence. Although difficult, both conversion and complication rates of LESS are low in experienced hands. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Evaluation of the risk factors associated with the development of post-transurethral resection of the prostate persistent bacteriuria
Conclusions Many risk factors have been found to contribute to the development of post-TURP UTI and avoiding these factors can enhance recovery of patients undergoing TURP. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Silodosin in the treatment of distal ureteric stones in children: A prospective, randomised, placebo-controlled study
Conclusions The data in the present study show that silodosin can be safely used in the treatment of DUS in children for decreasing time to stone expulsion, pain episodes, and analgesic requirement. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

A prospective randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial to assess the effect of diuretics on shockwave lithotripsy of calculi
Conclusion The use of diuretics along with SWL treatment of renal and upper ureteric calculi does not show a statistically significant improvement in fragmentation or clearance. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

A novel percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) set: The ‘Economical One-shot PCNL Set’ (Ecoset)
Conclusions The one-shot dilatation technique using the Ecoset for PCNL can be feasibly, safely, and effectively performed in almost every adult patient. The Amplatz dilator set and balloon dilator set have the disadvantage of relatively high cost, whereas the Ecoset is the cheapest ‘disposable set’ that can be used during PCNL surgery. Validity of a sponge trainer as a simple training model for percutaneous renal access
Conclusion Our early evaluation showed our novel, cost-effective and reproducible sponge trainer could be an effective training model for PRA with a beneficial impact on subsequent clinical practice. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Laparoscopic vs robotic nephroureterectomy: Is it time to re-establish the standard? Evidence from a systematic review
Conclusions This review suggests these techniques are equivalent in terms of perioperative and oncological performance. Furthermore, there may be a lower overall complication rate, as well as postoperative mortality in the robotic group. Further research in the form of a randomised controlled trial is warranted. Outcome analysis of transrectal ultrasonography guided aspiration versus transurethral resection of prostatic abscess: 10years ’ experience from a tertiary care hospital
Conclusion TUR of prostatic abscess is more effective (96%) than transrectal aspiration with a lesser hospital stay. However, transrectal aspiration was successful in 89% of cases, is less invasive and can be performed under local anaesthesia and or sedation. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Bipolar vs monopolar resection of bladder tumours of & gt;3cm in patients maintained on low-dose aspirin: A randomised clinical trial
Conclusion B-TURBT in patients maintained on low-dose aspirin is better than M-TURBT for minimising postoperative drop in Hb concentration. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Mathieu technique with incision of the urethral plate versus standard tubularised incised-plate urethroplasty in primary repair of distal hypospadias: A prospective randomised study
Conclusion The Mathieu-IP technique appeared to be better than the standard TIP technique with regard to postoperative fistula formation and meatal stenosis, and with acceptable cosmesis. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Risk factors and prognosis of intravesical recurrence after surgical management of upper tract urothelial carcinoma: A 30-year single centre experience
Conclusions In our present series, bladder cancer recurrence of urothelial malignancy occurred in nearly half of the patients after surgical management of UTUC. Ureteric tumour was the only identifiable risk factor, thus patients with ureteric tumours may benefit from prophylactic intravesical chemoimmunotherapy. Bladder recurrence does not appear to affect the cancer-specific survival after surgical management of UTUC. (Source: Arab Journal of Urology)

Medical expulsive therapy for ureteric stones: Analysing the evidence from systematic reviews and meta-analysis of powered double-blinded randomised controlled trials
Conclusion The primary findings show a small overall benefit for α-blockers as MET for ureteric stones but no benefit with CCBs. α-blockers show a greater benefit for large (>5mm) ureteric stones and those located in the distal ureter, but no benefit for smaller or more proximal stones. α-blockers are associated with a greater risk of side-effects compared to placebo or CCBs. A naked-eye comparison of image quality between a portable versus a fixed camera system for digital flexible ureterorenoscopy – A single centre experience
Conclusion For flexible URS imaging, the combination of a digital ureteroscope with a conventional non-digital stack system together with the OTV-SI portable light source was subjectively found not to be inferior to the completely digital fixed set-up. Thus, the cheaper and smaller portable system could be considered as an economical option without substantial loss of image quality, especially useful in developing countries.
