Teen Labiaplasty: A Response to the May 2016 American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Recommendations on Labiaplasty in Adolescents
Cosmetic genital surgery is on the rise not only in the realm of plastic surgery but also in that of gynecology. Young women below the age of 20 (millennial adolescents) now inquire about procedures to improve the appearance of their genitalia during their annual gynecological visits. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recently released recommendations for their members to better field cosmetic questions by this subset of patients. Incidence and Risk Factors of Major Complications in Brachioplasty: Analysis of 2,294 Patients
Conclusions Complication rates from brachioplasty are much lower than previously reported. Hematoma and infection are the most common major complications. Combined procedures, male gender, and BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 are independent risk factors for complications. Level of Evidence: 2 Risk (Source: Aesthetic Surgery Journal)

Objective Sensory Changes Following Subfascial Breast Augmentation
Conclusions The study demonstrates that for calculated volume increases of up to 102% of the initial breast volume, sensory loss at 12 weeks after surgery is 4% at the NAC. The commonest area of diminished sensitivity is the lower-outer quadrant (16.15%), relating to the use of the inframammary crease incision. It provides a useful adjunct in monitoring patient recovery following subfascial breast augmentation. Level of Evidence: 4 Therapeutic (Source: Aesthetic Surgery Journal)

Biomarkers Provide Clues to Early Events in the Pathogenesis of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma
Almost 200 women worldwide have been diagnosed with breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). The unique location and specific lymphoma type strongly suggest an etio-pathologic link between breast implants and BIA-ALCL. It is postulated that chronic inflammation via bacterial infection may be an etiological factor. BIA-ALCL resembles primary cutaneous ALCL (pcALCL) in morphology, activated T-cell phenotype, and indolent clinical course. Gene expression array analysis, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry were used to study pcALCL and BIA-ALCL cell lines. Clinical samples were also studied to ...

Who is Publishing in Facial Cosmetic Surgery? A Citation Analysis Across Specialties Over Five Decades
Conclusions Plastic surgeons, and plastic surgery journals, still remain a strong force in academic facial cosmetic surgery. However, it appears that the competition from non-plastic surgeons observed in clinical practice is being mirrored in the area of journal publications. We as a specialty need to continue to strive for high quality academic productivity. (Source: Aesthetic Surgery Journal)
