Atrium ‐specific ion channels in the zebrafish – a role of IKACh in atrial repolarization
ConclusionWe demonstrate that the acetylcholine‐activated inward rectifying current (IKACh) current plays a major role in the zebrafish atrium, and that the zebrafish could potentially be a cost‐effective and reliable model for pharmacological testing of atrium specific IKACh modulating compounds. This article is protected by copyright. Presenilin PS1 ∆E9 disrupts mobility of secretory organelles in rat astrocytes
ConclusionAlthough the PS1 mutants PS1M146V and PS1ΔE9 differently affect ER Ca2+ conductance, our results revealed a common, vesicle type indiscriminate trafficking defect in PS1ΔE9 astrocytes, indicating that reduced secretory vesicle‐based signalling is a general deficit in AD astrocytes. This article is protected by copyright. Specific labelling of myonuclei by an antibody against pericentriolar material 1 on skeletal muscle tissue sections
ConclusionPericentriolar material 1 can be used as a specific histological marker for myonuclei in skeletal muscle tissue without relying on counterstaining of other structures or cumbersome and subjective analysis of nuclear positioning. (Source: Acta Physiologica)

Increased FXYD1 and PGC ‐1α mRNA after blood flow‐restricted running is related to fibre type‐specific AMPK signalling and oxidative stress in human muscle
ConclusionBlood flow restriction augmented exercise‐induced increases in muscle FXYD1 and PGC‐1α mRNA in men. This effect was related to increased oxidative stress and fibre type‐dependent AMPK signalling, but unrelated to the severity of muscle hypoxia, lactate accumulation, and modulation of fibre type‐specific CaMKII signalling. This article is protected by copyright. Higher Ca2+ ‐sensitivity of arterial contraction in 1‐week‐old rats is due to a greater Rho‐kinase activity
ConclusionOur results suggest that the higher Ca2+‐sensitivity of arterial contraction in 1‐week‐old compared to 10‐12‐week‐old rats is due to a greater Rho‐kinase activity. Constitutively active Rho‐kinase contributes to MX‐induced contraction in 10‐12‐week‐old rats. In 1‐week‐old rats, additional Rho‐kinase activation is involved. This remodeling of the Rho‐kinase pathway is associated with its increased contribution to adrenergic arterial pressure responses. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Lactate increases myotube diameter via activation of MEK/ERK pathway in C2C12 cells
ConclusionThese observations suggest that lactate‐associated increase in the diameter of C2C12 myotubes is induced via activation of GRP81‐mediated MEK/ERK pathway. Extracellular lactate might have a positive effect on skeletal muscle size. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Acta Physiologica)
