Benjamin and an amazing work programme/unemployment myth busting tool. Not to be missed! #wca
INCREDIBLE tool for jobseekers via: http://diaryofabenefitscrounger.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/incredible-tool-for-jobseekers.html?spref=fb    “Last night, one of those rare moments of campaigning joy popped up on my timeline. A guy sanctioned onto a work programme scheme was asked to give a presentation. And BOY does he do us proud!!! This is the most simple, easy to understand accessible report into just how it feels to be unemployed in this current, toxic climate. I’ve never read anything so helpful or empowering or which busts the governments dreadful myths so clearly.” https://skydrive.liv...

The Sun hacks #MentalHealth and I was worried about using the ‘T’ word.. #whatstigma #ukmh @TheSunNewspaper
So earlier today I titled a post ‘The Sun Has Got It’s Tw*t On’ and before I actually pressed the button which sends it off pinging into the unknown I found myself feeling a little worried about using the ‘T’ word! What will people think? It’s a swear word, it belongs in the sewer. Do I have ‘potty mouth’? What would my Dad say?  But still, frowning a little, I pressed the post and off it went and little by little I cared less about using the ‘T’ word. There’s just not enough outrage or affront in this entire universe to cover just how much injury is caused...

Rethink’s ‏@VictoriBleazard on #LethalDiscrimination of the mentally ill. #MentalHealth
“This week, Rethink Mental Illness, a UK mental health charity, released Lethal Discrimination, a report that spent no time getting to its bottom line: people with mental health problems are being let down by the medical system. They are not offered the services given to other patients, and this has resulted in a rather telling statistic—a third of the 100 000 avoidable deaths in the UK are of people with a mental health problem. On average, people with serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia die 20 years younger than the rest of the population.” cont’d….. http://www.thelancet.com/journal...

DWP Cancel Poverty Party: Week of Festivities to Celebrate Benefit Sanctions Scrapped
Reblogged from the void: The DWP have cancelled a vile week long celebration of benefit sanctions due to be held to coincide with the Tory Party Conference the PCS Union have reported.   In a sign of growing militancy from the PCS leadership to oppose the vicious sanctioning regime (stop laughing) the union had issued a strongly worded letter to DWP bosses complaining about the upcoming shindig. Guardian: ‘The #Tory vilification of #disabled people is truly sick’ #cpc13
George Osborne’s workfare policy threatens to lump all claimants together, just as Iain Duncan Smith’s universal credit takes the same broad brush to those in need of benefits. Of the 200,000 people who are long-term unemployed, how many sick and disabled people will be forced to undertake community work, attend a jobcentre every day or go on an intensive training programme? http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/oct/01/tory-vilifcation-disabled-sick-george-osborne Filed under: Mental Health, The News & Policies. Cllr Grigg said she had since been told by a GP that he dreaded anyone with mental health issues coming into his surgery because there is so little provision to treat people. http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent_messenger/news/help-hard-to-find-in-6739/ Filed under: Mental Health, The News & Policies. CQC to investigate impact of #mentalhealth beds crisis on patients and staff.
From the perspective of the patient it is the turn-away (or bed unavailability) that is a key metric while from the perspective of staff occupancy levels above 80% can lead to stressful working environments. The findings would help CQC better understand the extent and impact of this long standing issue on quality and could also contribute to risk assessments for providers with capacity issues.” http://www.communitycare.co.uk/blogs/mental-health/2013/09/cqc-to-investigate-impact-of-mental-health-beds-crisis-on-patients-and-staff/ Filed under: Mental Health, The News & Policies.
