Bifid canals: identification of three clinical cases using cone-beam computed tomography images
ABSTRACT Anatomical variations of mandibular canal have rarely been reported in the literature. The aim of this paper is to present three clinical cases of bifid mandibular canal diagnosed with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) as well as discuss its clinical implications. The first case is very interesting due to its anatomic variation verified in a panoramic radiograph during orthodontic planning, mimicking an odontogenic tumor. The second and the third cases were identified during tomographic evaluation for third molar exodontia. The diagnosis of bifid canals is extremely relevant in order to avoid complications duri...

Maltodextrin and dental caries: a literature review
The objective of this study was to conduct a literature review of the association between maltodextrin and dental caries. Based on the studies included in this review it can be concluded that maltodextrin has an acidogenic potential lower than sucrose, and that there is a lack of studies about the association between maltodextrin and sucrose and it may not be possible to assess the relationship to dental caries.RESUMO Os carboidratos s ão amplamente presentes em nossa dieta. Dentigerous cyst in the maxillary posterior region associated with an impacted deciduous molar
ABSTRACT Dentigerous cyst, ranked the second most common developmental odontogenic cyst of the jaws after the radicular cyst, is a well-defined, unilocular radiolucent lesion without symptoms, frequently noted as an incidental finding in routine radiographs. The cystic lining is derived from epithelial remanants of the tooth-forming organ and the teeth most commonly affected are impacted mandibular third molars and permanent maxillary canines. While the dentigerous cyst is not uncommon, its development as a result of an impacted deciduous tooth is rare. The aim of this article was to make a brief literature review and repo...

Effect of bleaching agents on black tooth stains caused by chromogenic bacteria: 10 years follow-up case report
ABSTRACT Some microorganisms are associated with the formation and deposition of pigmentation on dental surfaces, and its localization, intensity and recurrence persistence can introduce aesthetic disorders. Carbamide peroxide is a bleaching agent that also presents antimicrobial properties. This case report addresses a ten-year clinical follow-up, showing a possible influence of a bleaching procedure protocol on alterations of oral microbiota. Although a bleaching treatment does not have the purpose to alter the oral microbiota, a drastic reduction and recurrence of black tooth stains was observed in this case.RESUMO Algu...

The patient was treated with curettage and peripheral osteotomy and a 5-year follow-up examination showed the area to have healed completely, with no evidence of recurrence. Consequently, although the clinical management of ameloblastoma is often based on invasive surgical approaches, l...
