Gestational Weight Gain and Pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index Associated With Second-Generation Antipsychotic Drug Use During Pregnancy
Obesity during pregnancy is the most common high-risk obstetric condition, resulting in increased rates of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Individuals with psychiatric disorders have a higher risk of obesity than the general population, but data regarding implications of obesity in women with psychiatric disorders are sparse. The Medical Incapacity Hold: A Policy on the Involuntary Medical Hospitalization of Patients Who Lack Decisional Capacity
Medically hospitalized patients who lack decisional capacity may request, demand, or attempt to leave the hospital despite grave risk to themselves. The treating physician in this scenario must determine how to safeguard such patients, including whether to attempt to keep them in the hospital. However, in many jurisdictions, there are no laws that address this matter directly. In this absence, psychiatrists are often called upon to issue an involuntary psychiatric hold (civil commitment) to keep the patient from leaving. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Gestational Weight Gain and Pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index Associated with Second-Generation Antipsychotic Use During Pregnancy
The objective of this study was to assess pre-pregnancy weights and gestational weight gain in women who were exposed to second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs) during pregnancy compared to controls. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Post-Surgical Disfigurement Influences Disgust Recognition: A Case-Control Study
Little is known about how emotion recognition may be modified in individuals prone to elicit disgust. We hypothesized that subjects with total laryngectomy would present a modified recognition of facial expressions of disgust. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Collaborative care and related interventions in patients with heart disease: an update and new directions
Psychiatric disorders, such as depression, are very common in cardiac patients and are independently linked to adverse cardiac outcomes, including mortality. Collaborative care and other integrated care models have been used successfully to manage psychiatric conditions in patients with heart disease, with beneficial effects on function and other outcomes. Novel programs utilizing remote delivery of mental health interventions and promotion of psychological well-being may play an increasingly large role in supporting cardiovascular health. Onset of psychosis following strokes to the cerebellum and thalamus
TO THE EDITOR: Clinical studies have suggested that the cerebello-thalamo-cortical circuit could be one of the neural networks contributing to the pathogenesis of psychosis.1 –5 However, current reports still remain limited regarding the onset of psychosis in association with structural lesions of both the cerebellum and thalamus. Here we present the case of a woman who developed a new-onset psychosis after strokes to the left cerebellum and both thalami. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Clozapine-Associated Aspiration Pneumonia: Case Series and Review of the Literature
Clozapine is a highly effective antipsychotic, and is the only antipsychotic with an indication for suicidal behavior and treatment-resistant schizophrenia.1 However, many adverse effects have been linked to clozapine use, including conditions associated with increased mortality. Clozapine-associated Aspiration Pneumonia: Case Series and Review of the Literature
While risk of medication-induced movement disorders is lower for most atypical antipsychotics compared to typical antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics are more commonly associated with weight gain and metabolic abnormalities. They are also associated with more serious and life-threatening conditions; in particular, clozapine has been linked to agranulocytosis, myocarditis, and gut dysmotility. Increasingly, an association has been established between clozapine and lower respiratory infection. (Source: Psychosomatics)

Mental Health Screening of Medically-Admitted Patients With Cystic Fibrosis
Multi-national studies have identified an increased risk for depression and anxiety among the cystic fibrosis population. People with cystic fibrosis and depression have decreased lung function, adherence, and quality of life, and increased health care utilization. This is a pilot study of mental health screening and referral of patients with cystic fibrosis in a large tertiary medical center. (Source: Psychosomatics)
