Minimally invasive surgical techniques for hemostasis in Osler–Weber–Rendu disease
Conclusions The presented clinical case with favorable outcome highlights the role of a modern surgical technology – APC – effective in achieving nose hemostasis. In the presented case, APC has brought many advantages in achieving hemostasis: non-contact coagulation with minimal tissue penetration and destruction, a safe method with minimal complications, decreased risk of perforation. Stand-alone XLIF: 22 consecutive patients with degenerative scoliosis and foraminal stenosis in a 2-year follow-up
Conclusions The XLIF stand-alone procedure improves clinical outcome scores significantly after 1- and 2-year follow-up, with a 31.8% revision rate. Due to the high revision rate we recommend supplementary posterior instrumentation, to achieve a higher fusion rate. When considering XLIF-stand-alone procedure for DS or DDD without supplemental posterior instrumentation, only single-level disease should be advised, taking sagittal parameters into account. The role of Blastocystis sp. as an etiology of irritable bowel syndrome
Conclusions It is most likely that the presence of Blastocystis in the human intestine plays a significant role in IBS. On the other hand, it is still not known if Blastocystis is the etiological agent responsible for this type of gut dysfunction. There are many reports in the literature which are mutually exclusive. More studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis. (Source: Polish Annals of Medicine)

Acute ileo-ileal intussusception due to intestinal metastatic melanoma
Conclusions Any gastrointestinal symptom in patients previously treated for cutaneous melanoma should lead to accurate research for metastases. We propose to use at follow-up abdominal CT scan in asymptomatic patients when the primary tumor has poor prognostic factors such as advanced stage or incomplete resection. Prostate cancer topography
Conclusions TRUS-guided prostate biopsy is an effective method for detecting and locating prostate cancer. Tissue core samples obtained during prostate biopsy serve as sufficient diagnostic material for a histopathologist. In our study population, cancer was located most frequently in the middle part of the prostate gland. (Source: Polish Annals of Medicine)

Diabetic neuropathy
Conclusions In light of the current state of knowledge, recommended first line medication in the treatment of pain associated with DN includes: tricyclic antidepressant, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor or antiepileptic drug. If monotherapy proves ineffective, adding a second drug may be considered, then adjuvant opioid and alternatively non-pharmacological treatment. In case of lack of response to treatment, stimulation of the spinal cord can be the final intervention. (Source: Polish Annals of Medicine)

The impact of selected vasoactive factors on vascular functions
Conclusions Blood vessel function largely depends on the activity of endothelial cells which release various vasoactive factors in response to stimulation. The resulting mutual interactions adjust vascular function to current needs. Endothelial dysfunction disrupts the activity of various organs, and it may contribute to cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, atherogenesis or thrombotic lesions.
