Corrosion of laser-welded stainless steel orthodontic wires
Conclusion Laser welding of stainless steel orthodontic wires should be acceptable for clinical use, because the joints showed sufficient strength and the original structure was not significantly altered. Immersion in acidic solution had minimal effect on the mechanical performance at the joint regions, and showed minimal acceleration of metallic ion release. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Considerations for placement of mandibular buccal shelf orthodontic anchoring screw in Class III hyperdivergent and normodivergent subjects – A cone beam computed tomography study
Conclusion The mesial aspect of the second molar appears to be a safe site for placement of MBS orthodontic anchoring screw as its slope was flatter and gave greater distance from molar root. Increasing vertical level or insertion angle resulted in a higher cortical bone thickness and distance from the molar root. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Histological response in dental pulp of accelerate tooth movement using periodontal ligament distraction osteogenesis in dogs
Conclusion PLDO enabled rapid tooth movement and initial histological change in the dental pulp was similar to that in response to conventional orthodontic treatment. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Comparison of monozygotic twins who received orthodontic treatment with self-ligated and conventional brackets: Case report
This study objectived to compare the performance of different brackets, conventional and self-ligated, under similar conditions, in monozygotic twins patients with severe tooth crowding. It was evaluated the rapidness of treatment, chair time, quality of finalization, comfort and hygiene of the patients. The treatments had a duration of 24 months in both cases, however, with the conventional appliance, less time was required for performing alignment and leveling. Whereas, treatment with the self-ligated appliance required fewer appointments, and chair time was reduced about 20%. Both patients had satisfactory hygiene, and ...

Treatment of severe maxillary hypoplasia with oligodontia and complete bilateral cleft lip and palate by maxillary anterior segmental distraction osteogenesis
We describe successful orthodontic treatment using maxillary anterior segmental distraction osteogenesis (MASDO) in a patient with cleft lip and palate. A 20-year-old woman with bilateral cleft lip and palate, multiple congenitally missing teeth, reduced maxilla, concave soft-tissue profile, and skeletal Class III jaw relationship was treated with a combination of orthodontic treatment and MASDO. After treatment, the anterior maxilla was displaced forward with new bone formation induced in the distraction gap for insertion of dental implants. Maxillary hypoplasia was successfully treated while preserving the velopharyngeal...

Lip changes after premolar extraction in Class I bimaxillary protrusion: A retrospective study in Thai female adults
Conclusion The ratios of upper and lower anterior teeth retraction and upper and lower lip changes were 1:0.56 and 1:0.87, respectively. The predictive equations of upper and lower lip reductions were ΔH-U-lip=0.34(ΔH-tUI)+1.19 and ΔH-L-lip=0.57(ΔH-cLI)+2.11, respectively. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Interdisciplinary dental treatment of a patient with incontinentia pigmenti exhibiting oligodontia and skeletal Class III malocclusion
Publication date: Available online 29 September 2017 Source:Orthodontic Waves Author(s): Yuichiro Otsuka, Naoto Suda Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare X-linked genetic disorder characterized by various abnormalities of the skin, eyes, teeth, hair, and central nervous system. Among them, congenitally missing teeth and abnormal tooth morphology frequently cause occlusal problems. This case report shows an interdisciplinary dental treatment performed by orthodontic, prosthodntic and oral surgery clinics for a 13-year-old female patient with incontinentia pigmenti by temporary anchorage device (TAD) mechanics. She exhibited...

A three-dimensional method for evaluating changes in lip morphology following correction of functional anterior crossbite
Conclusions Post-treatment imaging showed forward movement of the upper lip, backward movement of the lower lip, and backward rotation of the soft tissue in the submental region. The three-dimensional method described in the present study improves the evaluation of facial morphology and provides insight into the changes in the lip morphology of preadolescent patients.
