The effects of sex, skeletal age, and sagittal skeletal pattern on pharyngeal airway dimensions and related structures in growing Thai orthodontic patients
ConclusionInteractions between sex–skeletal age and skeletal age–sagittal skeletal pattern affected the pharyngeal airway dimensions. The surrounding structure positions and dimensions varied according to sex–skeletal age interaction and sagittal skeletal difference. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Relationship between cranial base and jaw base in different skeletal patterns
ConclusionThe cranial base angle affects the anteroposterior orientation of both maxilla and mandible with a minimal contribution to the appearance of different vertical skeletal patterns. Meanwhile, the cranial base length affects minimally the anteroposterior orientation of both the maxilla and the mandible. However, a significant link was found between it and the total facial height, thus contributing to the appearance of different vertical skeletal patterns. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Evaluation of prevalence and characteristics of ponticulus posticus among Japanese adults: A comparative study between CBCT imaging and lateral cephalogram
ConclusionPP is quite a common finding in Japanese adults. There were cases in which PP was not detected on lateral cephalogram compared with CBCT. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

Dentofacial characteristics in a patient with Aarskog–Scott syndrome
This study presents the case of a 9-year old Japanese boy who was diagnosed with ASS at the age of three. The patient presented to our orthodontic department with hypodontia, impacted teeth, and delayed eruption, with narrow upper arch and retrognathic mandibles. In the present report, we introduce the patient’s dentofacial characteristics. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)

A case of adult cleft palate patient treatment with differential maxillary lateral expand distraction osteogenesis using combined expansion appliances
In this report, we suggest a novel method for uneven maxillary lateral expansion using a dento-osseous-supported expansion appliance in the frontal side of the maxilla and a modified dental-supported expansion appliance in the mid-palatal area. With this method, we achieved the optimal maxillary expansion in the maxillary frontal and molar areas. As a result of the surgically-assisted orthodontic treatment, facial asymmetry, the facial midline, and severe malocclusion were corrected. Furthermore, the resulting occlusion and facial symmetry were maintained over a 2-year retention period. Although attention must be paid rega...

Transverse adjustment of preformed stainless steel archwires to the dental arch form
Conclusion To reduce these adjustments, preformed stainless steel archwires that are designed to be approximately 1–2mm at the canine, 1–3mm at first premolar, 2–4mm at second premolar, and 3–6mm at first molar wider in the transverse dimension could be clinically recommended. Questionnaire investigation after orthodontic treatment in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate: An inter-clinic collaborative study
Conclusion This study clarified the subjective effects and problems with orthodontic treatment in patients with UCLP in Japan. Satisfaction after treatment was high. Anticipated esthetic improvement was accomplished and masticatory problems improved. Orthodontic treatment also positively affected speech. Efficient orthodontic treatment to minimize treatment duration and improved treatment systems for easier access are needed to reduce patient burdens in Japan. (Source: Orthodontic Waves)
