Controlling nutritional status score for predicting 3-month functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke
• The indicator of malnutrition for acute ischemic stroke has not been established.• Prognostic value of the CONUT score has been shown in patients with malignant tumors.• The CONUT score was significantly associated with poor 3-month outcomes in AIS.• The CONUT score could be a useful progn ostic marker in acute ischemic stroke. Association of the FTO fat mass and obesity –associated gene rs9939609 polymorphism with rewarding value of food and eating behavior in Chilean children
Epidemiologic data suggest that some people are more susceptible than others to weight gain [1]. Data from monozygotic and dizygotic twins have shown that body mass index (BMI) is nearly as heritable as height [2], where it is estimated that 40% to 70% of the variance in obesity susceptibility can be attributed to genetic differences [3]. The fat mass and obesity –associated (FTO) gene remains the locus with the highest shared variance on BMI in adults and children, where the minor allele increases BMI by 0.39 kg/m2 and risk for obesity by 1.20-fold [3]. Association of the FTO fat mass and obesity – associated gene rs9939609 polymorphism with rewarding value of food and eating behavior in Chilean children
• The FTO rs9939609 have been previously associated with energy and macronutrient intake.• Our study evaluates the association between specific eating behavior scores and FTO polymorphism in Chilean Children.• We found that rs9939609-A allele of the FTO gene is associated with eating behavior traits that may predispose obese children to increased energy intake and obesity. Percutaneous sonographically assisted endoscopic gastrostomy for difficult cases with interposed organs
- Percutaneous sonographically assisted endoscopic gastrostomy/duodenostomy was safely performed.- Mean duration of the procedure including endoscopic evaluation was 20.0 min.- We have not encountered a case with mispuncture of the intraperitoneal organs and tissues.- Early complications just after the procedure occurred in 1 cases, active oozing- Delayed complications occurring within 1 month were pneumonia in 5 patients including 3 of death. Tracking of food and nutrient intake from adolescence into early adulthood
• Dietary intake at age 13 years appears to predict dietary intake at early adulthood.• From age 13 to 21 years, the rank order of the mean of consumption of food groups across dietary patterns was in general maintained, although differences between patterns were attenuated.• Adolescence may b e a relevant period to implement dietary interventions. Effects of nut consumption on selected inflammatory markers: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Inflammatory potential of diet is associated with cognitive function in an older adult korean population
• Higher DII scores are associated with increased risk of cognitive impairment, suggesting that consuming a pro-inflammatory diet is associated with increased risk for cognitive impairment in the older adult Korean population.• The older adult population who slept less than 7 hours and consumed pro-inflammatory diet had increased risks for mild or moderate cognitive impairment compared to those who consumed anti-inflammatory diet.• Recommendation of an anti-inflammatory diet may be necessary to ensure cognitive health in this population. Efficacy of educational intervention to improve awareness of the importance of iodine, use of iodized salt, and dietary iodine intake in northeastern Italian schoolchildren
Iodine deficiency is defined by the WHO as “the single most important preventable cause of brain damage” [1]. In recent decades, many national-scale programs to improve dietary iodine intake have been promoted, leading to a decline in the number of iodine-deficient countries: According to the latest Iodine Deficiency Disorders report, 12 % of countries participating in the last epidemiologic investigation were iodine deficient in 2016, down from 16% in 2015. These recent findings suggest an encouraging, positive trend toward optimal iodine intake in the general population, even though 57% of countries still have an ina...
