The Mortality Associated With Chronic Widespread Musculoskeletal Complaints: A Systematic Review of the Literature
ConclusionsIn this systematic review, based on a limited number of studies, pooled data gave no evidence of a higher mortality rate among individuals with CWMSC. The non‐significant tendency for a higher mortality rate in unadjusted pooled analyses was nearly eliminated in the adjusted pooled analyses, considering lifestyle factors such as physical activity smoking. In population‐based studies evaluating the relationship between CWMSC and mortality rates, we recommend that both unadjusted and adjusted analyses should be presented. (Source: Musculoskeletal Care)

Patients' Perspectives on Information and Communication About Sexual and Relational Issues in Rheumatology Health Care
ConclusionPatients wanted HPs to possess knowledge about possible disease‐related challenges in sexual life and intimate relationships, and to facilitate communication about these aspects. There is a need to develop practice guidelines to enable HPs to integrate sexual issues as an aspect of healthcare delivery in a patient‐friendly manner. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Risk Stratification for 4,837 Individuals with Knee Pain Who Receive Physical Therapy Treatment
The objective of the present study was to identify predictive characteristics related to patients with knee impairments who had a high risk of a bad prognosis (exceptional non‐responders) as well as those who were at low risk of a bad prognosis (exceptional responders). A cohort of 4,837 patients with knee pain seen for physical therapy was retrospective analysed using univariate and multivariate multinomial regression analyses. Modelling was used to identify characteristics associated with those who were exceptional responders and those who were exceptional non‐responders. Exceptional non‐responders were significant...

The Role of Physiotherapy Extended Scope Practitioners in Musculoskeletal care with Focus on Decision Making and Clinical Outcomes: A Systematic Review of Quantitative and Qualitative Research
ConclusionsThere is broad support for the physiotherapy ESP role and evidence of favourable outcomes from ESP intervention. Clinical decisions made by ESPs correlate well with those of medical colleagues, although there is a lack of detail explaining the ESP decision‐making process itself and the influences and mechanisms by which this occurs. Therapeutic Review of Methylprednisolone Acetate Intra‐Articular Injection in the Management of Osteoarthritis of the Knee – Part 2: Clinical and Procedural Considerations
Abstract The use of an intra‐articular methylprednisolone acetate (MPA) injection has been shown to have benefits for symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, considerations beyond drug efficacy can influence the appropriateness, clinical effectiveness and potential harm of an injection. A review of research evidence and published literature on clinical and procedural factors influencing the effectiveness and safety of a knee injection has been undertaken. Factors include dose, frequency, contraindications, precautions, drug interactions, side‐effects, and procedural and patient‐related considerations. An evalu...

Self ‐Reported Barriers to Healthcare Access for Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients in Rural and Northern Saskatchewan: A Mixed Methods Study
ConclusionsAccess to medical services is a concern for this population. Patients were dissatisfied with the waiting time for their first specialist appointment and with decreased access to allied health professionals. Patients travelling longer distances were more satisfied with their health care provider's care, suggesting that good patient‐care giver relationships helped to ameliorate the difficulties of travelling to their appointments. Long ‐Term Outcomes of Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
ConclusionsImprovements in pain and functioning seen directly after a 15‐week multidisciplinary treatment programme for patients with CMP were maintained, health care usage decreased and the number of working hours among working patients increased at 24 months' follow‐up. Future studies are needed to examine if additional interventions after discharge can enhance further the favourable results. (Source: Musculoskeletal Care)

Illness Experiences in Women with Oral Dryness as a Result of Sj ögren's Syndrome: The Patient Point of View
DiscussionXerostomia and other consequences of pSS can have a profound influence on daily life. However, the severity of the consequences depends on individual experiences with the illness, social influences and the psychological responses of the patient.
