Risk for Mild Cognitive Impairment Is Associated With Semantic Integration Deficits in Sentence Processing and Memory
We examined the degree to which online sentence processing and offline sentence memory differed among older adults who showed risk for amnestic and nonamnestic varieties of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), based on psychometric classification. Method. Participants (N = 439) read a series of sentences in a self-paced word-by-word reading paradigm for subsequent recall and completed a standardized cognitive test battery. Participants were classified into 3 groups: unimpaired controls (N = 281), amnestic MCI (N = 94), or nonamnestic MCI (N = 64). Results. Relative to controls, both MCI groups had poorer sentence memory and ...

Planning Decrements in Healthy Aging: Mediation Effects of Fluid Reasoning and Working Memory Capacity
Discussion. Fluid abilities and WM capacity undergo significant changes from younger to older age in their unique contribution to planning, which might represent a mechanism whereby planning decrements in older age are brought about. Age Differences in the Differentiation of Trait Impressions From Faces
Discussion. Less differentiation of trait impressions from faces in OA is consistent with previous evidence for less differentiation in face and emotion recognition. Results indicated that that age-related dedifferentiation does not reflect narrow changes in visual function. They also provide a novel explanation for OA positivity effects. The Effects of Structural Complexity on Age-Related Deficits in Implicit Probabilistic Sequence Learning
Discussion. These findings are consistent with the view that there is an associative binding deficit in aging and that this deficit occurs for implicit as well as explicit learning and across simple and more complex sequence structures. Combining Formal and Informal Caregiving Roles: The Psychosocial Implications of Double- and Triple-Duty Care
Discussion. Relative to their counterparts without family caregiving roles, women with combined caregiving roles reported poorer psychosocial well-being. Additional research on women with combined caregiving roles, especially triple-duty caregivers, should be a priority amidst an aging population, older workforce, and growing number of working caregivers. Staying on Task: Age-Related Changes in the Relationship Between Executive Functioning and Response Time Consistency
Discussion. Our results replicate findings of greater RT inconsistency in older adults and reveal that executive functioning is related to tau in adults aged 75–85. These results support literature identifying tau as a marker of cognitive control, which deteriorates in old age.
