Aspheric Micro-monovision LASIK in Correction of Presbyopia and Myopic Astigmatism: Early Clinical Outcomes in a Chinese Population
CONCLUSIONS:The aspheric micro-monovision protocol provided a well-tolerated and effective means for treating myopic astigmatism and alleviating presbyopic symptoms simultaneously.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(10):680 –685.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Comparative Analysis of the Clinical Outcomes With a Monofocal and an Extended Range of Vision Intraocular Lens
CONCLUSIONS:The extended range of vision IOL provides better distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity than the aspheric monofocal IOL, while maintaining the same level of visual quality.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(7):436 –442.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Influence of Pachymetry and Intraocular Pressure on Dynamic Corneal Response Parameters in Healthy Patients
CONCLUSIONS:HC radius, inverse concave radius, DA ratio, and DefA ratio were shown to be suitable parameters to evaluate in vivo corneal biomechanics due to their independence from IOP and their correlation with pachymetry and age. The creation of normative values allows the interpretation of an abnormal examination without the need to match every case with another normal patient matched for CCT and IOP.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):550 –561.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Clinical Evaluation of Reading Performance Using the Salzburg Reading Desk With a Refractive Rotational Asymmetric Multifocal Intraocular Lens
CONCLUSIONS:Reading performance of the multifocal IOL corresponded for near standardized and individual distance, whereas reading function was better at the patient's preferred intermediate distance.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):526 –532.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Long-term Effects of LASIK on Corneal Innervation and Tear Neuropeptides and the Associations With Dry Eye
CONCLUSIONS:This study provides evidence of the association between tear neuropeptides, conjunctival sensitivity, and symptoms in symptomatic patients after LASIK. The differences in nerve morphology, neuropeptide, and ocular surface sensitivity between symptomatic and asymptomatic patients after LASIK are required to better understand the mechanism of dry eye after LASIK.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):518 –524.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Combining Placido and Corneal Wavefront Data for the Detection of Forme Fruste Keratoconus
CONCLUSIONS:Indices generated from corneal wavefront and Placido measurements can assist in identifying early or mild forms of keratoconus undetected by a Placido-based neural network program.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):510 –516.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Investigating Elastic Anisotropy of the Porcine Cornea as a Function of Intraocular Pressure With Optical Coherence Elastography
CONCLUSIONS:The presented noncontact OCE method was capable of detecting and assessing the corneal elastic anisotropy as a function of IOP. Due to the noninvasive nature and small amplitude of the elastic wave, this method may be able to provide further information about corneal health and integrity in vivo.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):562 –567.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Comparison of Simulated Keratometric Changes Following Wavefront-Guided and Wavefront-Optimized Myopic Photorefractive Keratectomy
CONCLUSIONS:The change in corneal curvature induced for a given degree of refractive correction was similar for both wavefront-optimized and wavefront-guided PRK. For both, a proportionally smaller amount of corneal flattening was required for larger degrees of refractive correction compared to smaller degrees.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):542 –548.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Pediatric Keratoconus in a Tertiary Referral Center: Incidence, Presentation, Risk Factors, and Treatment
CONCLUSIONS:The incidence of pediatric keratoconus indicates that increased awareness for keratoconus among children is needed, mainly in cases of family history of keratoconus, ocular allergy/pruritus, poor CDVA, corneal hydrops, and/or high astigmatism.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(8):534 –541.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Material Analysis of Spontaneously Subluxated Iris-Fixated Phakic Intraocular Lenses
CONCLUSIONS:Deformations of the haptics of iris-fixated phakic IOLs can cause irreversible damage leading to disenclavation and inadequate re-enclavation. In such cases, explantation appears to be the only therapeutic option. It is important to adhere to an appropriate implantation technique to reduce the risk of spontaneous subluxation.[J Refract Surg. 2016;32(9):618 –624.] (Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)
