Ex Vivo Study of Transepithelial Corneal Cross-linking
CONCLUSIONS:
Corneas treated by transepithelial CXL with an extended pretreatment time of 60 minutes and penetration enhancers exhibited similar characteristics as corneas treated by the deepithelialized CXL approach. By confocal imaging, the transepithelial approach with extended pretreatment time demonstrated evidence of epithelial damage, which may have improved the treatment effect of this group.

[J Refract Surg. 2017;33(3):171 –177.]

(Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Biomechanical Weakening of Different Re-treatment Options After Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE)
CONCLUSIONS:
In enhancement, the corneal biomechanical integrity is less affected with both Re-SMILE and PRK enhancement. Corneal weakening through laser refractive surgery is small compared to the stiffening effect after CXL.

[J Refract Surg. 2017;33(3):193 –198.]

(Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Influences of Flap Shape and Hinge Angle on Opaque Bubble Layer Formation in Femtosecond Laser-Assisted LASIK Surgery
CONCLUSIONS:
An oval-shaped flap with a larger hinge angle tended to result in less OBL formation in femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK.

[J Refract Surg. 2017;33(3):178 –182.]

(Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)

Effects of Short-term Preoperative Topical Ketorolac on Pupil Diameter in Eyes Undergoing Femtosecond Laser –Assisted Capsulotomy
CONCLUSIONS:
Short-term topical use of ketorolac prior to femtosecond laser –assisted cataract surgery seems to induce significantly less pupillary miosis in comparison to eyes that did not receive NSAID pretreatment. NSAID use is advised prior to femtosecond laser–assisted cataract surgery to minimize pupil miosis–related surgical difficulties or complications during cataract extraction.

[J Refract Surg. 2017;33(4):230 –234.]

(Source: Journal of Refractive Surgery)
