Acute viral hemorrhage disease: A summary on new viruses
Publication date: Available online 29 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Somsri Wiwanitkit, Viroj Wiwanitkit Acute hemorrhagic disease is an important problem in medicine that can be seen in many countries, especially those in tropical world. There are many causes of acute hemorrhagic disease and the viral infection seems to be the common cause. The well-known infection is dengue, however, there are many new identified viruses that can cause acute hemorrhagic diseases. In this specific short review, the authors present and discuss on those new virus diseases that present as “acute hemorrhagic fe...

Evaluation of the acute and sub-acute toxicity of the ethanolic extract of Pericampylus glaucus (Lam.) Merr. in BALB/c mice
Conclusions The result indicates that the oral administration of Pericampylus glaucus (Lam.) Merr. extract did not produce any significant toxic effect in BALB/c mice. Hence, the extract can be utilized safely for therapeutic use in pharmaceutical formulations. (Source: Journal of Acute Disease)

Emergent hybrid external fixation for tibial pilon fractures in adults
Publication date: Available online 29 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Gabriele Falzarano, Antonio Medici, Predrag Grubor, Milan Grubor, Luigi Meccariello Objective To investigate that if the hybrid external fixation is the definitive treatment and management of tibial extra articular and intrarticulat pilon fractures of the adult in emergency. Methods We treated 237 cases of pilon fractures using hybrid external fixation with or without minimal osteosynthesis from February 1999 to December 2014. All fractures were classified according to the Association for the Study of Internal Fixatio...

Acute band keratopathy formation after penetrating keratoplasty: A case report
Publication date: Available online 29 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Wee-Min Teh, Mohtar Ibrahim A 53-year-old male was referred from another eye hospital for right eye corneal perforation secondary to infective keratitis. A penetrating keratoplasty was performed for tectonic purposes. Fourty eight hours after penetrating keratoplasty, he developed a band keratopathy located at the interpalpebral area of the corneal button. Despite stopping topical and systemic ciprofloxacin which could have contributed to this, the band keratopathy became more severe. Surgical debridement of the band keratopa...

Obstetric anal sphincter injuries
Publication date: Available online 28 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Remon Keriakos, Deepa Gopinath Obstetric anal sphincter injuries can be associated with significant short and long term consequences causing devastating impacts on the quality of lives of young, otherwise healthy women. The major consequence is anal incontinence which may be short or long term and vary in severity. The other consequences include pain, infection, dyspareunia and sexual dysfunction. This may in turn result in considerable economic burden to health care providers and patients. It also has an implication on futur...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus: An occupational health hazard in the prehospital setting
Publication date: Available online 28 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Alaa Al Amiry Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a serious nosocomial infection within healthcare settings, and with its community version worldwide (i.e. community-acquired-MRSA), it is safe now to classify it as an epidemic. The aim of this paper is to build the logic for the reader to understand why this drug-resistant infection can impose an occupational hazard towards emergency health services personnel in the prehospital settings. This logic started with a model, the author conceptualizes as a cross-tra...

Torsadogenic index for prevention of acute death
Publication date: Available online 28 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Adrián Ángel Inchauspe This risk management project aims to apply a global preventive and predictive measure in potential victims of acute death and heart failure. Among the main causes are identified sub-diagnosed genetic mutations; prescription, interaction, self-medication or abuse of suspected drugs due to internet prospects's consult; and a parasitic pandemia, the Chagas disease (over 100 000 000 population is potentially infected worldwide). Promoting a global extensive determination of the torsadogenic index which was ...

The trend of acute burns pre-hospital management
Conclusions Burn injuries are common in our settings, a more reason for all to know the immediate intervention to give to victims of such accidents. The kind of first aid administered to burns victims possibly affects the burns management outcome. Thus, the earlier the right intervention implemented, the lesser the complications. Progress on macrophage's proinflammatory products as markers of acute endometriosis
Publication date: Available online 10 July 2015 Source:Journal of Acute Disease Author(s): Alicja Ziętek, Konrad Futyma, Łukasz Nowakowski, Marek Gogacz, Tomasz Rechberger To provide the review of the macrophage activity products as pathophysiological markers of endometriosis by literature survey (PubMed, Cochrane). Immunoreactive cells and several of their synthesis products concentrations are elevated in the serum and peritoneal fluid in patients with endometriosis. The enhanced reactive proteins contributed to local inflammation and aggregation of endometriotic lesions. Immune response and immune surveil...
