Effect of health on knowledge, self‐efficacy and health behaviours of women with urinary tract infection
ABSTRACT Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections affecting about 40% of women in some points in their lives. UTI can cause serious potential consequences such as life‐threatening sepsis, if it is not treated by primary health care providers. Health behaviours play an important role in causing UTI. Self‐efficacy, as an important moderator of the relationship between knowledge and behaviour, is an important prerequisite for behaviour change. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of health education on knowledge, self‐efficacy and health behaviours of women with UTI. Thi...

Health‐related quality of life in people with overactive bladder symptoms: reliability and validity of the traditional Chinese version of the Kings' Health Questionnaire
ABSTRACT Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common medical condition. A number of health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) measurements for OAB have been developed during recent years, including the linguistic validation of the traditional Chinese version of the Kings' Health Questionnaire (KHQ). However, limited studies are available for this version of KHQ. Hence, the aim of this study was to examine the reliability and discriminant validity of this traditional Chinese version within the communities of Taiwanese. A cross‐sectional and case–control study was designed. On the basis of a convenience sampling, participants we...

The psychology of penile cancer from presentation to rehabilitation
ABSTRACT Penile cancer is an uncommon, gender‐specific, malignancy that has the potential to profoundly affect physical, social, sexual and psychological functions. For most patients the method of treatment is surgery. The degree of surgical intervention is dependent on the stage of the disease at presentation. To date, relatively little is known about the impact of penile cancer surgery on psychological function and overall quality of life in men. Understanding the outcomes of treatment will influence the development of optimal methods of rehabilitation. This paper provides an outline of the context of two reviews of th...

Loose nerves and weak blood: a thematic analysis of premature ejaculation in Bangladeshi Muslim men
The objectives of this study were to examine the accounts of Bangladeshi Muslim men with premature ejaculation (PE) and to qualitatively explore self‐reported causation. Twenty‐three men with either lifelong or acquired PE were interviewed using a semi‐structured schedule. Participant's responses were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Three common themes were identified, biomedical, psychological and cultural, that were used to explain PE, with a ‘preference’ for biomedical causation. Each theme had sub‐themes that were used to explain ‘acceptable’ forms of sexual practice and subsequent hel...
