This study aimed to examine the quality of life, relationships, sexual functioning, psychological wellbeing and illness perceptions of individuals with OAB after they have received treatment. And to determine whether an individual's psychological wellbeing is directly related to the severity of their symptoms, or whether their illness perceptions mediate this relationship. This study used a cross‐sectional, questionnaire‐based quantitative design with a secondary care outpatient sample who were diagnosed with OAB and had been either previously or currently prescribed drug treatment. Patients reported moderately severe...

‘Healthy on Hormones’: improving the experience of men with advanced prostate cancer
ABSTRACT Long‐term androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for advanced prostate cancer can result in significant and distressing side effects and longer‐term adverse metabolic effects. A seminar‐based service improvement initiative was developed to provide information and strategies to understand ADT, to manage side effects and to provide lifestyle advice regarding cardiovascular and bone issues. The seminars were evaluated with patient questionnaires and were positively received. This approach has proven to be a valuable tool in the care of this patient group. Developing and testing a urine colour reference scale: a practice development project
ABSTRACT Although it is a common reason for consulting a doctor, there is inconsistency in describing and discussing abnormally coloured urine. To produce a reliable visual urine colour rating scale that reflects and enables accurate reporting of varying degrees of concentrated urine and of macroscopic haematuria. A practice development project was undertaken in the Urology ward of an acute care private hospital. The project was patient focussed, multidisciplinary, actively engaged staff and was evolutionary. Initially a prototype chart was developed but was found to need redevelopment. Funding and ethics approval were obt...

Impact of urinary incontinence on sexual quality of life in Portuguese adults
In this study, UI has a negative impact on sexual life compounded by restrictions and other negative consequences of living with urinary leakage. The authors conclude that further research is required to ascertain the full impact of UI on sexual quality of life. Finally, implications for nurses are also discussed: in addressing the sexual health of their patients, nurses have an important contribution in assuring that experiencing UI should not necessarily translate into negative sexual quality of life.
