Are polymorphisms in metabolism protective or a risk for reduced white blood cell counts in a Chinese population with low occupational benzene exposures?
CONCLUSION: Null-GSTT1 and null-GSTM1 genotypes and Cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1: rs2031920, rs3813867) may support the hematotoxicity of benzene-exposed workers in China, and we can make use of it to select susceptible population.

Results of a community-based survey of construction safety climate for Hispanic workers.
CONCLUSIONS: We found that Hispanic construction workers in this study experienced a poor safety climate. The Hispanic construction safety climate model we propose can serve as a framework to guide organizational safety interventions and evaluate safety climate improvements.

Work-related accidents among the Iranian population: a time series analysis, 2000-2011.
CONCLUSIONS: The final model showed that time series analysis of ARIMA models was useful for forecasting the number of work-related accidents in Iran. In addition, the forecasted number of work-related accidents for 2011 explained the stability of occurrence of these accidents in recent years, indicating a need for preventive occupational health and safety policies such as safety inspection.

National working conditions surveys in Latin America: comparison of methodological characteristics.
CONCLUSIONS: Although WCSs from Latin America are similar, there was heterogeneity across surveyed populations and location of the interview. Reducing differences in surveys between countries will increase comparability and allow for a more comprehensive understanding of occupational health in the region.

More evidence of unpublished industry studies of lead smelter/refinery workers.
CONCLUSIONS: Because occupational lead exposure is an on-going concern for US and overseas workers, all epidemiologic studies should be made available to evaluate and update occupational health and safety standards.

If it bleeds, it leads: the construction of workplace injury in Canadian newspapers, 2009-2014.
CONCLUSION: Newspapers overreported fatalities, injuries to men, and injuries in the construction and mining/quarrying/oil industries. This results in a misleading picture of occupational injuries in Canada.

A cluster of lead poisoning among consumers of Ayurvedic medicine.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the largest cluster of lead and mercury toxicity following use of Ayurvedic supplements described in the literature in the US. Contamination of herbal products is a public health issue of global significance. There are few regulations addressing contamination of "natural" products or supplements.

Repeat work bouts increase thermal strain for Australian firefighters working in the heat.
Authors: Walker A, Argus C, Driller M, Rattray B
