Enterovirus D ‐68 in Children Presenting for Acute Care in the Hospital Setting
ConclusionsAmong pediatric patients presenting to the ED or urgent care, EV‐D68 causes more severe disease than non‐EV‐D68 HRV/EV independent of underlying asthma. High viral load was associated with worse clinical outcomes. Rapid and quantitative viral testing may help identify and risk stratify patients. This article is protected by copyright. Excess pneumonia and influenza hospitalizations associated with influenza epidemics in Portugal from season 1998/1999 to 2014/2015
ConclusionOver 80% of the influenza epidemics were associated with excess hospitalizations. However, excess P&I hospitalizations pattern differed from age group and circulating virus. This ecologic approach also identified a reduction in excess P&I associated with A(H3) circulation with increasing vaccine coverage in the elderly. (Source: Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses)

Estimated rates of influenza ‐associated outpatient visits during 2001‐2010 in 6 US integrated healthcare delivery organizations
ConclusionsEstimated rates of influenza‐associated outpatient visits were higher in children than adults during pre‐pandemic and pandemic seasons. Rates estimated with pneumonia visits plus influenza‐coded visits were similar to rates from studies using RT‐PCR‐confirmed influenza. (Source: Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses)
