Rapid risk assessment during the early weeks of the 2015 –2016 influenza season in Ukraine
ConclusionsThe first weeks of the 2015/16 influenza season were more severe than previous seasons, with an earlier and steeper increase in severe cases and deaths, particularly in younger adults. Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 was the predominant strain and was closely related to the seasonal vaccine strain with no evidence of resistance to antiviral drugs. This article is protected by copyright. Rationale and opportunities in estimating the economic burden of seasonal influenza across countries using a standardized WHO tool and manual
This article aims to describe the rationale of this manual development and opportunities that lie in collecting data to help policymakers estimate the economic burden of seasonal influenza. It describes a manual developed by WHO to help such estimation and also links to relevant literature and tools to ensure robustness of applied methods to assess the economic burden associated with seasonal influenza, including direct medical costs, direct non‐medical costs and indirect costs. 2015/16 I ‐MOVE/I‐MOVE+ multicentre case control study in Europe: moderate vaccine effectiveness estimates against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and low estimates against lineage mismatched influenza B among children
ConclusionsVE against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and its genetic group 6B.1 was moderate in children and adults, and low among individuals ≥65  years. VE against influenza B was low and heterogeneous among age groups. More information on effects of previous vaccination and previous infection are needed to understand the VE results against influenza B in the context of a mismatched vaccine. This article is protected by copyright. Factors associated with influenza vaccination among health care workers in acute care hospitals in Canada
ConclusionHCWs differ in their annual uptake of influenza vaccine based on their past vaccination history, occupation, and ethnicity. These findings indicate a need to determine whether there are other vaccine hesitant groups within health care settings and learn which approaches are successful in increasing their uptake of influenza vaccinesThis article is protected by copyright.
