Re-osseointegration of Dental Implants After Periimplantitis Treatments: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: Promising results were observed in the studies that used combination of bone substitutes together with guided bone regeneration for the regenerative therapy. Regarding implant surfaces, better re-osseointegration was observed with rough implant surfaces rather than smooth ones. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Short Implants Versus Standard Implants: Midterm Outcomes of a Clinical Study
Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, it is concluded that short implants achieved similar results as standard implants after 3 to 5 years of loading. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Biological and Technical Complications of Splinted or Nonsplinted Dental Implants: A Decision Tree for Selection
Conclusion: Either splinting or nonsplinting are valid options for restoring adjacent implants, but each tend to face different biological and technical complications. Knowing which patients are more likely to face particular complications is strategic to provide patients with successful restorations. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Implants With and Without Laser-Microtextured Collar: A 10-Year Clinical and Radiographic Comparative Evaluation
Conclusion: Results suggest that after at least 10 years of function, implants with laser-microtexturing (L) collar surface, compared with implants with machined surface, lead to lower MBL and PD. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Comparison of Stress and Strain Distribution Around Splinted and Nonsplinted 6-mm Short Implants in Posterior Mandible: A Finite Element Analysis Study
Conclusion: Splinting adjacent short implants may provide less bone strain and stress, especially at the presence of lateral forces. Increasing the implant diameter may be effective in strain reduction, but does not seem to reduce the bone stress, regardless of the direction of the load applied. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Effects of a Short Drilling Implant Protocol on Osteotomy Site Temperature and Drill Torque
Purpose: To establish a protocol for reducing the drilling sequence during implant site preparation based on temperature and insertion torque. The traditional conventional drilling sequence (used several drills with 0.6-mm increment each time) was compared with the proposed short drilling protocol (only used 2 drills: initial and final drill). Materials and Methods: One hundred drilling osteotomies were performed in bovine and porcine bones. Sets of 2 osteotomy sites were created in 5 bone densities using 2 types of drilling protocols. Thermographic pictures were captured throughout all drilling procedures and analyze...

Validation of a Simplified Implant-Retained Cantilever Fixed Prosthesis
Conclusion: The simplified fixed prosthesis evaluated presents biomechanical behavior similar to an anatomical prosthesis in the implants and in the surrounding bone structure. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Cone-Beam CT Assessment of the Position of the Medial Lingual Foramen for Dental Implant Placement in the Anterior Symphysis
Conclusion: The medial lingual foramen should be considered while performing presurgical planning. Careful attention is needed while setting the placement position of the dental implant to decrease the risk of complications. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Effects of Valproic Acid on Morphology, Proliferation, and Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived From Human Gingival Tissue
Conclusions: Taken together, this study demonstrated that VPA, at the tested concentrations, decreases the viability of stem cells derived from the human gingiva. The decreases in osteogenic differentiation were achieved via the decrease of Rux2 expression. The concentration and application time of VPA treatment should be meticulously controlled to minimize any detrimental effects. (Source: Implant Dentistry)

Bone Formation Using Cross-Linked Chitosan Scaffolds in Rat Calvarial Defects
This study used cross-linked chitosan scaffolds for in vivo evaluation of scaffold-supported bone regeneration in rat calvarial defects using histopathological analysis and examination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), calcium, phosphorus, and calcitonin serum levels. Materials and Methods: Scaffolds were made of cross-linked chitosan. After the defect was filled with the scaffold, the periosteum was carefully repositioned and sutured to stabilize the scaffold. The effects of the scaffold on wound repair were examined microscopically. Morphological radiographic and histopathological analyses of wound repair ratios were per...
