Intimate relationships and sexual function in partnered patients in the year before and one year after a myocardial infarction: A longitudinal study
Conclusions: Partnered first-time MI patients continue to be sexually active the year after the event, and are highly satisfied with their intimate relationship. While the MI event seems to have a more negative impact on men’s sexual functioning than women’s, the women still rate their sexual function lower in comparison. Health care contact is higher in the week preceding a first myocardial infarction: A review of medical records in Northern Sweden in 2007
Conclusion: Both women and men with a first MI are in contact more frequently than the general population in the week prior to the event. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Knowledge of cardiovascular disease in Turkish undergraduate nursing students
Conclusions: Although students were knowledgeable about cardiovascular disease and associated risk factors, there were significant gaps in their knowledge; these should be addressed through improved nursing curricula. While students were generally healthy, they could improve their practice of health-promoting behaviors. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Hospital nurses' comfort in and frequency of delivering heart failure self-care education
Conclusions: Nurses’ comfort in and frequency of delivering education varied by heart failure self-care content area. Self-care education areas most important to survival and hospitalization had the lowest rates of nurse comfort and frequency. Systems and processes are needed to facilitate education delivery prior to hospital discharge. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Sleep disturbance, symptoms, psychological distress, and health-related quality of life in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusions: Sleep disturbance is a significant finding in PAH. Increasing levels of sleep disturbance are associated with worse PAH symptoms, psychological states, and health-related quality of life. Interventions that decrease sleep disturbances may improve symptoms and HRQOL. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

The efficacy and safety of a chest pain protocol for short stay unit patients: A one year follow-up
Conclusion: Patients had a low risk of adverse events 12 months after discharge but substantial continuing health care utilization was observed. Complete assessment by health care professionals prior to discharge may help mitigate representations. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Deriving health utilities from the MacNew Heart Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire
Introduction: Quality of life is included in the economic evaluation of health services by measuring the preference for health states, i.e. health state utilities. However, most intervention studies include a disease-specific, not a utility, instrument. Consequently, there has been increasing use of statistical mapping algorithms which permit utilities to be estimated from a disease-specific instrument. The present paper provides such algorithms between the MacNew Heart Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire (MacNew) instrument and six multi-attribute utility (MAU) instruments, the Euroqol (EQ-5D), the Short Form 6D (SF-6D)...

Medication adherence interventions for heart failure patients: A meta-analysis
Conclusion: While the medication adherence effect size across all studies was significant, the effect was modest. Approaches to improving heart failure medication adherence may be most effective when focused on medication adherence alone, and when seeking to change behavior of patients, rather than health care provider behavior. Post-discharge electrocardiogram Holter monitoring in recently hospitalised individuals with chronic atrial fibrillation to enhance therapeutic monitoring and identify potentially predictive phenotypes
Conclusion: Post-discharge ECG Holter monitoring of AF patients represents a valuable tool to identify deviations in intended rhythm/rate control and adjust therapeutic management accordingly. It may also identify individuals who demonstrate labile HRs. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

The key role of caregiver confidence in the caregiver's contribution to self-care in adults with heart failure
Conclusion: These findings suggest that caregivers in this sample did not contribute meaningfully to HF self-care. Providers should educate both HF patients and caregivers. Interventions that improve caregiver confidence have the potential to successfully increase the caregivers’ contribution to patients’ self-care. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)
