Predictive factors for bleeding-related re-exploration after cardiac surgery: A prospective cohort study
Conclusions: Blood product transfusion postoperatively is an independent predictor of bleeding-related re-exploration. Surgical errors prevailed as sources of bleeding. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Attempts to improve and confidence in improving health behaviour in 40-49 year olds with and without coronary heart disease: The Hordaland Health Study
Conclusions: Adults in their 40s with CHD were more likely to have attempted to improve their health behaviour during the past year compared with those without CHD. Healthcare providers should take advantage of these positive attitudes to encourage further positive improvements. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Prodromal symptoms associated with acute coronary syndrome acute symptom presentation
Conclusion: Results extend current knowledge of the predictive value that prodromal headache, sleep disturbance and anxiety may have on individuals’ acute symptom presentation. A prospective, prognostic study is required in order to determine whether PS are predictive of adverse cardiac events and if PS are a stronger predictor of ACS acute symptom presentation, compared with typical ACS-related co-morbidities. Lack of evidence and standardization in care pathway documents for patients with ST-elevated myocardial infarction
Conclusion: Care pathway documents for patients with STEMI differ considerably in lay-out, timeframe and size. This study showed variation in, and suboptimal inclusion of, evidence-based key interventions and quality indicators in care pathway documents. The use of these care pathway documents might result in suboptimal quality of care for STEMI patients. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

The impact on long term health outcomes for STEMI patients during a period of process change to reduce door to balloon time
Conclusions: Process changes improved DTBT but had no effect on length of stay, readmission rate or 12-month mortality. Yet, timely management was critical to 12-month outcomes. Further studies are required to explore the barriers to timely treatment. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Being on sick leave due to heart failure: Encounters with social insurance officers and associations with sociodemographic factors and self-estimated ability to return to work
Conclusion: Encounters between SIOs and people on sick leave due to HF need to be characterized by a person-centred approach including confidence and trust. People with low income need special attention. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Development and psychometric assessment of the Basic Resuscitation Skills Self-Efficacy Scale
Conclusion: The BRS-SES showed good psychometric properties for measuring self-efficacy in basic resuscitation skills that nursing students, as future first responders to an in-hospital cardiac arrest, will be expected to master. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Underestimation of risk perception in patients at risk of heart disease
Conclusions: This study revealed an overall underestimation of risk perception among a sample of ‘high risk’ cardiac patients admitted to hospital for an interventional coronary procedure, with those who reported lower risk perception being less likely to attend cardiac rehabilitation and less likely to adhere to their medication regimen. Person-centred care improves self-efficacy to control symptoms after acute coronary syndrome: a randomized controlled trial
Conclusions: Our results indicate that PCC added to usual care promotes and hastens the development of patients’ confidence in their ability to manage symptoms during recovery after ACS. This underlines the importance of initiating and establishing partnerships between patients and health care professionals as early as possible after ACS. Perception of impairments by patients with heart failure
Conclusion: Highly prevalent impairments are not by definition perceived as severely harsh by patients with HF and do not contribute to the overall HR-QoL except for the impairments tiredness and working around the house/yard. These insights are important in providing personalized and optimized care for patients with HF. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Sleep in octogenarians during the postoperative phase after transcatheter or surgical aortic valve replacement
Conclusion: Octogenarians with aortic stenosis had disturbed self-reported sleep, increased insomnia, and disturbed sleep–wake patterns postoperatively, resulting in more daytime sleep and inactivity. In patients undergoing SAVR or TAVI, sleep evolves differently during the in-hospital postoperative phase. (Source: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)
