Thymic uptake after high-dose I-131 treatment in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma: A brief review of possible causes and management
Conclusions Thymus visualization in young patients after administration of therapeutic doses of I-131 seems is a more common finding than usually thought. Absence of metastasis in the thymus despite high thyroglobulin levels was confirmed in all cases. Based on these results, we suggest that a more expectant and less aggressive therapeutic approach could be used. We also suggest that I-131 therapy for DTC should be considered in classification of the potential causes of true thymic hyperplasia in the subgroup of patients recovering from a stressor. Reference ranges for serum and salivary testosterone in young men of Mediterranean region
Conclusions In men from the Mediterranean region, values of TT>9.7nmol/L, CFT>0.22nmol/L, and/or CBT>4.9nmol/L make the presence of biochemical hypogonadism unlikely. According to the correlation between serum and ST, the clinical value of ST remains to be established. (Source: Endocrinologia y Nutricion)

Cystic fibrosis-related diabetes: A distinct condition
Publication date: Available online 2 January 2015 Source:Endocrinología y Nutrición (English Edition) Author(s): Marta Cano Megías , Olga González Albarrán Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal inherited autosomal recessive disease in Caucasians, affecting approximately one out of every 2000 births. Survival of patients with cystic fibrosis has significantly improved due to advances in respiratory and nutritional care, and their current average life expectancy is 30–40 years. Development of cystic fibrosis-related diabetes is a comorbidity that increases with age and may reach a prevalence up to 50% in adul...

Cytoplasmic expression of SSTR2 and 5 by immunohistochemistry and by RT/PCR is not associated with the pharmacological response to octreotide
Conclusion Expression of these receptors does not guarantee an adequate response to somatostatin analogs; other functional aspects of this interaction, such as receptor homo- and heterodimerization, and the resulting signaling cascade, probably play a role in determining whether a patient will respond or not to these agents.
