Who attends a Children's Hospital Emergency Department for dental reasons? A two ‐step cluster analysis approach
ConclusionsA significant number of visits to the ED were for dental reasons with two clusters of children. The results have identified groups of patients for whom appropriate dental provision is lacking and where targeted services are needed to improve outcomes for children and reduce the burden on EDs. Total daily fluoride intake and fractional urinary fluoride excretion in 4 ‐ to 6‐year‐old children living in a fluoridated area: weekly variation?
ConclusionsMean TDFI and FUFE did not vary statistically significantly with week and therefore one set of data collection from a group of children living in a temperate climate could be sufficient to monitor F exposure and F body burden in community prevention programmes for oral health. The impact of smoking on marginal bone loss in a 10 ‐year prospective longitudinal study
ConclusionsThe smokers started out with a more reduced marginal bone level than nonsmokers. However, even after adjusting for the initial marginal bone level, the progression of marginal bone loss in smokers was more pronounced than in nonsmokers. This shows that smoking is a factor with significant impact on the marginal bone level and can be assumed to be a true risk factor for marginal bone loss. Parental decisions about children's oral health behaviour: relative or absolute?
ConclusionsThe principles of Range‐frequency Theory predicted parents' judgement about children's oral health behaviour – specifically toothbrushing frequency. These findings provide a theoretical framework on which to develop future oral health education and interventions aimed at promoting twice‐daily toothbrushing to parents of young children. Oral and oropharyngeal cancer and the role of sexual behaviour: a systematic review
ConclusionThe current evidence for sexual behaviours being risk factors for oral and oropharyngeal cancer is limited and inconsistent. Evidence suggests that the number of sexual partners and performing oral sex are associated with a greater risk. Furthermore men whose partners have had cervical cancer may have an increased risk. More studies looking at OPC specifically will be useful to determine whether these behaviours are subsite‐selective. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Traumatic dental injuries and socioeconomic position – findings from the Children's Dental Health Survey 2013
ConclusionsThis study found no significant relationships between the experience of traumatic dental injuries and two markers of family socioeconomic position among children living in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This implies that rather than specifically targeting the more deprived sectors of society, TDI prevention policies should use upstream public health strategies incorporating a whole‐population approach. Effectiveness evaluation of Contra Caries Oral Health Education Program for improving Spanish ‐speaking parents’ preventive oral health knowledge and behaviors for their young children
ConclusionsContra Caries Oral Health Education Program improved low‐income Spanish‐speaking parents’ oral hygiene knowledge and self‐reported behaviors for their young children, and change was sustained 3 months after the end of the intervention. Future, more rigorous evaluation of the intervention is recommended. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Psychological and behavioral acculturation in a social network of Mexican Americans in the United States and use of dental services
ConclusionsThis study contextualizes acculturation of Mexican Americans within the personal networks in which oral health discussion takes place. The findings underscore the critical importance of acculturation and social network factors in shaping a subgroup of Latinos’ orientation toward dental care. Psychometric assessment of the short ‐form Child Perceptions Questionnaire: an international collaborative study
ConclusionThe CPQ11‐14 performed well cross‐sectionally in the largest analysis of the scale in the literature to date, with robust and mostly consistent psychometric characteristics, albeit with two underlying factors (rather than the originally hypothesized four‐factor structure). It appears to be a sound, robust measure which should be useful for research, practice and policy. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)
