The cost ‐effectiveness of oral health interventions: A systematic review of cost‐utility analyses
ConclusionThe use of CUAs in evaluation of oral health interventions has been increasing recently, especially from 2011 to 2016. The majority of CUA articles were of good reporting quality as assessed by the CHEERS checklist and were able to provide conclusions regarding the most cost‐effective intervention among the different options compared: this will assist in healthcare decision‐making and resource allocation. These positive outcomes of our study encourage wider use of CUAs within the dental and oral health professions. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Four ‐year incidence rate and predictors of root caries among community‐dwelling south Brazilian older adults
ConclusionAge, external environment, personal practices and oral status were predictors of the incidence of root caries. Preventive strategies including the use of fluorides and instruction to improve the attitude and behaviour towards oral hygiene are needed. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Prevalence and extent of enamel defects in the permanent teeth of 8 ‐year‐old Nigerian children
ConclusionsIn these Nigerian 8‐year‐olds (n = 322), mouth prevalence of DDE was 61.2% (mean (SD) teeth affected = 2.4 (2.2)), and a key positive predictor was a history of infant/childhood disease. With 29.8% of these children exhibiting dental fluorosis (mean (SD) teeth affected = 2.1(3.7)), drinking water F concentration was identified as a positive predictor, along with gender, with females more at risk of dental fluorosis than males. Education ‐related inequality in restorative dental treatment need over 11 years in two areas of Finland
ConclusionsIt seems that, from 2000 to 2011, the need for restorative dental treatment decreased simultaneously with the education‐related inequality in it among adults aged 30 years and older living in Northern and Southern Finland. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Economic evaluation of dental sealants: A systematic literature review
ConclusionsThe cost‐effectiveness of sealants is dependent on the conditions of delivery. The list of cost‐effectiveness ratios for each intervention can support policy makers to estimate expected returns on their investments in dental sealants. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Effectiveness of fluoride varnish in preventing early childhood caries in rural areas without access to fluoridated drinking water: A randomized control trial
ConclusionsIn conclusion, biannual fluoride varnish application is not effective in preschool children from rural nonfluoridated communities at a high risk of caries. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)

Effectiveness of oral health education on oral hygiene and dental caries in schoolchildren: Systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionsTraditional oral health educational actions were effective in reducing plaque, but not gingivitis. There is no long‐term evidence in respect of the effectiveness of these interventions in preventing plaque accumulation, gingivitis and dental caries in the school environment. Risk of subsequent attention ‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder among children and adolescents with amalgam restorations: A nationwide longitudinal study
ConclusionsThe univariate analysis results showed that those who had 6 or more amalgam restorations had a 20% higher risk of future ADHD; however, the association disappeared after the model was adjusted for age. Despite this study analysing a larger sample than those analysed in previous studies, no association was observed between young patients’ having received amalgam restorations and a future ADHD diagnosis. Further research aimed at evaluating the association between dental amalgam and other subsequent neuropsychological effects is warranted, especially for people who are vulnerable to mercury exposure. Measuring socioeconomic inequalities in the use of dental care services among older adults in Brazil
ConclusionsThe recent use of dental care and the use of preventive care are disproportionately concentrated among wealthier older adults, whereas the use of public services is more common among poorer individuals. Wealth inequalities in dental care use were mainly explained by socioeconomic factors, such as wealth and education, rather than oral health factors, such as needing treatment or a dental prosthesis. Dental erosion among South Brazilian adolescents: A 2.5 ‐year longitudinal study
ConclusionsA moderate incidence of dental erosion was observed among South Brazilian adolescents, with boys being at higher risk. The high progression rate of 25% observed here is very concerning, and it should be taken in consideration when designing preventive strategies for dental erosion. A mediation analysis study: The influence of mothers' dental anxiety on children's dental utilization among low ‐income African Americans
ConclusionsIn this low‐income African American sample, there was a trend for mothers' dental anxiety to be associated with children's dental utilization indirectly through mothers' own dental utilization, while the direct influence of mothers' dental anxiety on children's dental utilization was not seen. This suggests that mothers' dental utilization might explain how mothers' dental anxiety impacts children's early dental utilization. (Source: Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology)
