Intraoperative cholangiogram during laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A clinical trial in rural setting
ConclusionThe majority of patients treated in our centre were women, middle‐aged patients booked for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Although only 6.7% cases were suspicious for CBD stones pre‐operatively, a total of 17% of patients with routine IOC suggested CBD stones. IOC was found to be safe, taking only an additional 28 min of total theatre time. Routine rather than selective use of IOC could be considered to improve patient safety and long‐term results. Developing the future Indigenous health workforce: the feasibility and impact of a student‐led placement programme in remote Indigenous communities

The main signs of ageing in people with intellectual disability
ConclusionsWhen carers have the information and skills needed to identify the main signs of ageing, they can more accurately recognise and address potential problems in a timely manner. Such understandings have the potential to reduce premature admissions to residential aged‐care. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

The impact of extensive loss of telecommunications on general practice: A case study in rural Victoria
ConclusionsThe Warrnambool outage could be used as a case study illustrating the dramatic impact of communication loss. Major impacts include changes in patient traffic, increased administrative duties and slowing of patient care. When developing or assessing disaster management plans, general practices should consider the impact of telecommunication loss on functionality and prepare appropriate alternative, accessible and reliable measures. Health workers’ views of help seeking and suicide among Aboriginal people in rural Victoria
ConclusionThis study unpacks the problem of help seeking for psychological distress among rural Aboriginal people and highlights its association with suicide and self‐harm. The findings suggest that the barriers faced by Aboriginal people in sharing their traumatic emotions exist from childhood to older age groups and this inability to seek and obtain help can lead to self‐harm and suicide. Similar studies on Aboriginal help seeking and suicide will help shed more light on this challenging issue. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

The changing landscape of physiotherapy student clinical placements: An exploration of geographical distribution and student performance across settings
ConclusionsThe changing distribution of physiotherapy clinical placements may be reflective of increasing student numbers and greater efforts to support students completing rural and remote placements. This change may lead to a positive effect on the rural and remote physiotherapy workforce. Further research is required to determine the specific training and support needs of students and clinical educators in rural and remote settings. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Role of telehealth in diabetic foot ulcer management – A systematic review
ConclusionTelehealth yields high diagnostic accuracy, reproducibility and positive behavioural perceptions. However, it is not clear if telehealth use in diabetic foot management has favourable clinical and economic outcomes. More long‐term prospective controlled trials on larger populations are needed to further characterise our findings. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Determinants of rural Australian primary health care worker retention: A synthesis of key evidence and implications for policymaking
ConclusionsThe short retention of many Australian rural and remote Allied Health Professionals and GPs, particularly in small, outer regional and remote communities, requires ongoing policy support. The important retention patterns highlighted in this review provide policymakers with direction about where to best target retention initiatives, as well as an indication of what they can do to improve retention.
