Health workers ’ views of help seeking and suicide among Aboriginal people in rural Victoria
ConclusionThis study unpacks the problem of help seeking for psychological distress among rural Aboriginal people and highlights its association with suicide and self‐harm. The findings suggest that the barriers faced by Aboriginal people in sharing their traumatic emotions exist from childhood to older age groups and this inability to seek and obtain help can lead to self‐harm and suicide. Similar studies on Aboriginal help seeking and suicide will help shed more light on this challenging issue. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Process evaluation of a pilot evidence ‐based Polycystic Ovary Syndrome clinic in the Torres Strait
ConclusionWhile the clinic has been largely successful there are areas identified for potential improvement and to facilitate sustainability which should be considered before up‐scaling this model to a national level. These include systems, administrative and staffing support, engaging with other community services to facilitate lifestyle changes and ongoing engagement and upskilling of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care providers. Patterns of type 2 diabetes monitoring in rural towns: How does frequency of HbA1c and lipid testing compare with existing guidelines?
ConclusionsAlthough poor diabetes testing is not limited to rural areas, more intensive diabetes monitoring is likely to be needed for patients living in non‐metropolitan areas, particularly for some subgroups. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Coordination of diabetic retinopathy screening in the Kimberley region of Western Australia
ConclusionsEngagement of the Kimberley Diabetic Eye Health Coordinator was associated with significant increases in program coverage. Despite the observed increase, there were significant shortfalls in the number of Indigenous Australians with diabetes undergoing screening in the Kimberley region. This may be explained by examinations provided by other services in the Kimberley region, namely visiting optometry services, but also highlights a large proportion of the population not undergoing screening. ‘Is gestational diabetes a severe illness?’ exploring beliefs and self‐care behaviour among women with gestational diabetes living in a rural area of the south east of China
ConclusionsThis study highlighted the serious lack of knowledge, lower level of risk awareness and poor self‐care behaviour among women in this group. Health professionals were found to be the most important source of knowledge about gestational diabetes for these women. The influence of Chinese culture was demonstrated. Gestational diabetes among these women can most likely be improved by training the health professionals and by health education involving individuals, families and the rural communities.
