Health professional students' rural placement satisfaction and rural practice intentions: A national cross ‐sectional survey
ConclusionsThe majority of students were highly satisfied with their placement and the support provided by rural clinicians and the UDRHs. Exploring the use of drug trend data in the regional alcohol and other drug workforce
ConclusionsTrends in the use of, and harms related to, substance use are well captured in urban areas, but less so in regional areas. This inhibits both our understanding of where substance use is changing, as well as how to best plan and respond. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Chronic respiratory disease in the regional and remote population of the Northern Territory Top End: A perspective from the specialist respiratory outreach service
ConclusionIndigenous patients of the remote and rural communities of the Top End have significantly higher rates of smoking and COPD compared to non‐Indigenous patients. Bronchiectasis is also more common among Indigenous patients. Further efforts are warranted to develop strategies to address the disparity and optimise the respiratory outreach service to this population. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)

A comparison of barriers to mental health support ‐seeking among farming and non‐farming adults in rural South Australia
ConclusionLong‐held stereotypes of stoicism and self‐reliance among farmers were somewhat supported, in the context of mental health. Identifying and assessing strategies for evaluating the impact of mobile eye health units on health outcomes
ConclusionThis review identified and assessed strategies in existing literature used to evaluate the impact of mobile eye health units on health outcomes. Studies included in this review used patient outcomes (i.e. disease detection, vision impairment, treatment compliance) and/or service delivery outcomes (i.e. cost per attendance, hospital transport use, inappropriate referrals, time from diabetic retinopathy photography to treatment) to evaluate the impact of mobile eye health units. Limitations include difficulty proving causation of specific outcome measures and the overall shortage of impact evaluation studies. Varia...

A sequential case series of 23 intubations in a rural emergency department in New Zealand
ConclusionThis sequential case series is the first study looking at airway management in rural New Zealand emergency department airway practice. Overall intubation success rates were comparable to larger tertiary centres across Australasia. We have demonstrated that with adequate resources and adherence to interventions, a rural emergency department can provide effective airway management. (Source: Australian Journal of Rural Health)
