HAX-1 deficiency: Characteristics of five cases including an asymptomatic patient
Conclusion:Complete blood count should be performed and absolute neutrophil count should be evaluated in patients with recurrent severe infections. In the event neutropenia is detected, they should be investigated in terms of SCN and mutation analysis should be performed. This is important both for definite diagnosis of SCN, determination of subtype and treatment planning and also for genetic counseling.DOI 10.12932/AP0618.34.1.2016  (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

The correlation between intradermal testing and serum specific IgE to house dust mite in negative skin prick test allergic rhinitis adult patients
Conclusion: ID test has a fair to moderate correlation with sIgE Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and it can be used in CR patients with negative SPT where sIgE is not feasible.  (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

The evaluation and optimization of animal model for anaphylactoid reaction induced by injections
Conclusion: BN rats were more suitable for comprehensive evaluation of anaphylatoid reactions following injections; both IgE levels and CH50 could be used as auxiliary mediators for the assessment of anaphylactoid reactions. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

The relationship between adiponectin levels and epicardial adipose tissue thickness in non-obese children with asthma
Conclusion: EATT is associated with non-obese asthmatic childrens. High EATT may be related with high release of pro-inflammatory cytokine and low release of APN. Low levels of APN may be related to low anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, high EATT and low levels of APN may indicate pro-inflammantory profiles in non-obese asthmatic childrens.  (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

Direct medical cost of Thai pediatric asthma management: a pilot study
Conclusions: Cases of patients having asthma exacerbation or being diagnosed with asthma before 5 years of age were associated with higher treatment expenses. Policies developed to achieve asthma control and prevention should identify young children and patients presenting risk factors for asthma exacerbation as high risk groups deserving particular attention. High frequency of T helper type 9 cells in Chinese patients with allergic rhinitis
Conclusions: Th9 cells and their relative factors were elevated in AR patients. Levels of Th9 polarization-related factors were much higher in AR patients, and the severity of disease was associated with a more severe Th9 response. These results suggest that AR patients present a favorable environment for Th9 differentiation, and that Th9 cells may play a crucial role in the pathology of AR in Chinese patients. Pediatric anaphylaxis: triggers, clinical features, and treatment in a tertiary-care hospital
Conclusions:  The incidence of anaphylaxis in Thai children is increasing. Anaphylaxis in children commonly occurred without the histories of prior reaction to the causative agent. Less frequent treatment with intramuscular epinephrine was associated with biphasic and severe anaphylaxis. A better knowledge of patterns and causes of anaphylaxis might contribute to a better management. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

Airborne pollen survey in Bangkok, Thailand: A 35-year update
This study aimed to survey airborne pollens at five sites in Bangkok, comparing data with the previous study performed 35 years ago in 1980. Methods: Sample collection was done using the ROTOROD® sampler by exposing the rods for one hour each day twice a week from May 2012–April 2013. Results: Overall, we found that the average pollen count was relatively high throughout the year, at an average of 242 grains/m3. The highest peak was found in September (700 grains/m3). Interestingly, we found that the pollen count was noticeably lower in 2012–2013 when compared to the 1980 study. We also observed the approximate shift ...

Evaluation of the QuantiFERON®-TB Gold In-Tube assay and tuberculin skin test for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in northeastern Thailand
Conclusion: The TST should be used as a screening test based on its higher sensitivity, whereas the QFT should be used as a confirmatory test because of its higher specificity.  (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

Insights into the role of HCV Plus-/Minus strand RNA, IFN-γ and IL-29 in relapse outcome in patients infected by HCV
Conclusions: Our novel findings showed that the serum level of IL-29 and IFN-γ are predictive of relapse outcomes to HCV treatment, but there was no association between the presence of plus-/minus HCV RNA in PBMCs of patients with an outcome of therapy at ETR and later.  (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)
