BCAP 31 expression and promoter demethylation in psoriasis
Conclusions: The present study demonstrated increase expression of BCAP31 protein related to BCAP31 DNA demethylation in psoriasis. Future study is needed to indicate the mechanism of BCAP31 promoter demethylation and itspotential use as a novel treatment for psoriasis in the future. Obstructive sleep apnea and asthma
Both asthma and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are common conditions involving the adults and children population, and have significant impact on the healthcare system. For the last few decades a lot of data emerged in terms of the prevalence between asthma and OSA. The prevalence ranges from 38% up to as high as 70%. Based on the current concepts of bidirectional relationship of OSA and asthma, it is sensible to assume that treating one disorder will result in the other ’s better control and vice versa. This review will look into the pathogenesis of concomitant OSA and asthma and whether the first line OSA therapy will r...

The potential impact of gut on your health: Current status and future challenges
Our health and probably also our behaviors and mood depend not only on what we eat or what we do (lifestyle behaviors), but also on what we host. It is well established for decades that all vertebrates including humans are colonized by a wide array of bacteria, fungi, eukaryotic parasite s and viruses, and that, at steady state (homeostasis), this community of microbes establishes a friendly mutual relationship with the host. The term microbiota was originally meant to represent an ecological community of commensals and potentially pathogenic microbes that live within our bodies, bu t it is now used interchange...

Age of resolution from IgE-mediated wheat allergy
Conclusions: Of the children with IgE-mediated wheat allergy included in this study, 45.7% developed tolerance by 5 years of age. The concentration of sIgE for ω-5 gliadin is helpful for predicting wheat tolerance. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)

Frequency of HLA-DQB1*0201/02 and DQB1*0302 alleles and tissue transglutaminase antibody seropositivity in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Conclusions: A significantly greater frequency of DQB1*0201/02 and DQB1*0302 alleles were present in children with T1DM compared with the control group. This indicates a potentially important role of these alleles in the development of T1DM. The prevalence of CD screening by serologic testing is negligible in Thai children with T1DM. Species and quantity of airborne pollens in Shanghai as monitored by gravitational and volumetric methods
Conclusions: Two methods were used simultaneously for the first time to monitor pollen counts in central urban Shanghai, showing two annual peaks. Broussonetia and Humulus were the predominant spring and autumn pollens, respectively. Pollen counts obtained by both methods were clearly correlated. Regional airborne pollen monitoring offers preventive measures for sensitized individuals and provides useful clinical information. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology)
