Lack of Concordance in Interrater Scoring of the Provider's Global Assessment of Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis With Low Disease Activity
ConclusionThe low ICC suggests poor agreement among providers scoring the PGA in JIA patients with low or no disease activity. Given the ubiquitous use of the PGA in classification and response criteria for JIA and other pediatric rheumatic diseases, substantive efforts are needed to bring about greater uniformity in scoring of global disease activity by providers. Increased Insulin Resistance and Glucagon Levels in Mild/Inactive Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients Despite Normal Glucose Tolerance
ConclusionWe have identified that SLE patients had a bi‐hormone metabolic abnormality characterized by increased IR and hyperglucagonemia despite normal glucose tolerance and preserved beta cell function and skeletal muscle GLUT‐4 translocation. Strategies capable of ameliorating insulin sensitivity to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease in SLE may require more than targeting IR alone. Large vessel dilatation in giant cell arteritis: a different subset of disease?
ConclusionTwo different subsets of LV‐GCA were identified. Given the strong association between subclavian artery dilatation and aortic aneurysm, such patients should be evaluated and monitored carefully for aortic dilatation. This article is protected by copyright. Development and testing of a hybrid measure of muscle strength in juvenile dermatomyositis for use in routine care
ConclusionThe hMC was found to possess good measurement properties in a large population of patients with a wide range of disease activity and severity. The new tool, which is primarily intended for use in routine clinical care, should be further tested in other populations of patients evaluated prospectively. This article is protected by copyright. Children born by women with rheumatoid arthritis have increased susceptibility for selected chronic diseases – a nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsOur results suggest that in utero exposure to maternal RA is associated with an increased risk of thyroid disease and epilepsy in childhood and adolescence, and in particular an increased risk of RA, compared to children born by mothers without RA. These important findings should encourage pediatricians and general practitioners to an increased awareness of certain chronic diseases in children being exposed to RA in utero. This article is protected by copyright. Potential effect modifiers of the association between physical activity patterns and joint symptoms in middle aged women
ConclusionsMaintaining at least low levels of physical activity throughout middle age was associated with lower prevalence and incidence of joint symptoms in later life. This apparent protective effect of physical activity on joint symptoms was stronger in obese women than in under or normal weight women, and not related to menopause and HT status. This article is protected by copyright. Experiences with tele ‐health follow‐up in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a qualitative interview study
ConclusionThe participants had positive perceptions of the PRO‐based tele‐health follow‐up and saw it as a flexible and resource‐saving solution. They reported disadvantages related to missing face‐to‐face contact with health professionals (HPs).The two typologies, ‘the keen’ and ‘the reluctant’ patient, help us understand the patients’ different needs, wishes and abilities to take part in tele‐health follow‐up. Our findings reveal a need for more insight into how tele‐health follow‐up could be integrated in routine clinical practice, paying special attention to how reluctant patients may be s...

Validation of classification criteria of macrophage activation syndrome in Japanese patients with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis
ConclusionThe classification criteria for MAS complicating s‐JIA had a very high diagnostic performance. However, the diagnostic sensitivity for MAS onset was relatively low. For the early diagnosis of MAS in s‐JIA, the dynamics of laboratory values during the course of MAS should be further investigated. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. The foot as a barrier in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis – an interview study among Swedish women and men
ConclusionThere is a need to focus on foot impairments related to early RA, and for health care professionals to understand these signs. A suggestion for future research is to conduct a longitudinal follow‐up of foot impairment related to medication, disease activity and disability in patients diagnosed after the introduction of bDMARDs.This article is protected by copyright. High Health Care Utilization Preceding Diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Youth
ConclusionYouth with SLE have high health care utilization throughout the year preceding SLE diagnosis. Examining variable diagnostic trajectories of youth presenting for acute care preceding SLE diagnosis, and increased attention to psychiatric morbidity may help improve care for youth with new‐onset SLE.This article is protected by copyright. Overweight and Obesity Reduce the Likelihood of Achieving Sustained Remission in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis: Results from the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort Study
ConclusionRates of overweight and obesity were high (69%) in this ERA cohort. Overweight patients were 25%, and obese patients were 47% less likely to achieve sREM in the first 3 years despite similar initial DMARD treatment and subsequent biologic use. This is the largest study demonstrating the negative impact of excess weight on RA disease activity and supports a call to action to better identify and address this risk in RA patients. This article is protected by copyright.
