Decision-making process related to treatment and management in Korean women with breast cancer: Finding the right individualized healthcare trajectory
Breast cancer has the highest incidence worldwide among the types of cancers that affect women, and the second highest incidence in Korea (National Cancer Center Korea, Central Cancer Registry, 2014). Because of advances in diagnosis and treatment methods in recent years, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer patients is now>90% and long-term survival rates have also increased. In particular, Korean women are subject to longer treatment and follow-up care than many Western women because breast cancer primarily occurs in Korean women in their 40s, whereas Western women are typically affected in their 50s (Korean Breast...

Co-creative development of an eHealth nursing intervention: Self-management support for outpatients with cancer pain
Co-creative methods, having an iterative character and including different perspectives, allow for the development of complex nursing interventions. Information about the development process is essential in providing justification for the ultimate intervention and crucial in interpreting the outcomes of subsequent evaluations. This paper describes a co-creative method directed towards the development of an eHealth intervention delivered by registered nurses to support self-management in outpatients with cancer pain. A family-centered intervention for the transition to living with multiple myeloma as a chronic illness: A pilot study
More than 30,000 individuals will be diagnosed with multiple myeloma this year in the United States (American Cancer Society, 2017). Although multiple myeloma is an incurable malignancy, numerous treatment options and supportive care have improved survival, shifting its illness trajectory to one that is more chronic in nature (Kumar et al., 2008). This growing group of cancer survivors is particularly vulnerable for alterations in functional status and quality of life due to their typically advanced age and high symptom burden. A theory for aftercare of human trafficking survivors for nursing practice in low resource settings
Research on aftercare for human trafficking survivors highlights the limited knowledge of the needs of survivors; the evaluation of current aftercare; and the process of recovery navigated by the survivor in aftercare (Oram et al., 2012; Locke, 2010; Hacker& Cohen, 2012). Furthermore there has been a transition in aftercare where the victim or survivor, who before was seen as a passive victim of circumstance of their life and in need of therapeutic intervention, is now seen as having an active role in their recovery, thus facilitating recovery (Hacker& Cohen, 2012). The impact of self-monitoring food intake on motivation, physical activity and weight loss in rural adults
The prevalence of obesity in the United States (U.S.) has risen steadily over the past 35years (Fryar, Carroll,& Ogden, 2014) with>69% of adults overweight (34%) or obese (35%) (Ogden, Carroll, Kit,& Flegal, 2014). It is estimated that>44% of adults will be considered obese by 2030 if current diet and physical inactivity trends continue (Finkelstein, Khavjou, Thompson, et al., 2012; Trust for America's Health, 2011). In addition, significantly higher rates of obesity have been reported in adults living in rural areas compared with urban-dwelling adults (Befort, Nazir,& Perri, 2012). Self-determination theory-based perceptions of community dwelling women with cardiovascular disease and prediction of perceived physical activity limitations
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death and disability in the United States (Mozaffarian et al., 2015). A key risk reduction strategy for CVD includes promoting lifestyle modification in the area of physical activity (PA). Specifically, lower CVD-related morbidity and mortality and improvements in physical and psychological function have been associated with increases in PA (Mozaffarian et al., 2015; Shortreed, Peeters,& Forbes, 2013; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2008). The meaning of “comfort” to elderly individuals living in long-term care hospitals
The elderly population comprises 13.2% of the entire Korean population (Statistic Korea, 2014), and 89.2% of the elderly are reported to have chronic diseases, suffering from an average of 2.6 diseases (Korea Institute for Health and social Affairs, 2015). Traditionally, the elderly in Korea were taken care of by the family. However, caring for the elderly is now recognized as a social responsibility because women's participation in the workforce has increased, the number of nuclear families has increased, and the birth rate has decreased. Caretakers' barriers to pediatric antiretroviral therapy adherence in Vietnam – A qualitative and quantitative study
Poor antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence leads to drug resistance and treatment failures. The options for second and third line ART regimens, particularly for pediatric patients, are very limited in low and middle-income countries. HIV-infected children are mostly passive drug-takers, thus caretakers play a very important role in assuring ART adherence. Pediatric ART adherence is still a challenging problem in Vietnam since non-adherence is the major risk factor for treatment failure. Our study explores and measures caretakers' barriers in order to improve pediatric ART adherence in future. (Source: Applied Nursing Research : ANR)
