The effectiveness of lifestyle intervention in early pregnancy to prevent Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Chinese overweight and obese women: A quasi-experimental study
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common complications of pregnancy and is associated with substantially elevated risk of adverse health outcomes for both mothers and offspring. This quasi-experimental trial was conducted to assess whether a lifestyle intervention in early pregnancy can reduce the incidence of GDM and excessive gestational weight (GWG) gain among Chinese overweight women. Impact of an Exercise Program on Adherence and Fitness Indicators
Adherence to exercise is one of the most problematic health behaviors. This pilot study describes the impact of an exercise program on adherence to exercise and fitness indicators for overweight and obese adults enrolled in an insurance reimbursed exercise plan. Chart reviews were conducted retrospectively in a convenience sample of 77 subjects from a human performance lab (HPL) at a large southern university. Charts from 2004–2009 were reviewed for health history, fitness indicators (fitness level, weight, BMI, hip/waist ratio, % body fat, BP, HR, cholesterol), and adherence (number of exercise sessions/month). Development of a Child Abuse Level Management (CALM) Guide for Research with Young Children
Reporting child abuse or neglect is an ethical expectation and a legislated mandate of behavioral and health care professionals in the United States. In particular, researchers who investigate parent-child dyads are responsible for submitting procedures and informed consent documents to Institutional Review Boards that provide for the protection of children. The challenge for researchers is to recognize failing quality of parent-child interaction, prior to any event of maltreatment and to intercede in a deteriorating dynamic. Salami: by the slice or swallowed whole?
Salami slicing, the practice of extracting multiple papers from the one data set, is generally considered unsound practice in publication. To date critique of this view in the literature is limited. The aim of this paper is to present alternative views to challenge the concept of salami slicing as inherently negative. More specifically the paper will discuss the potential consequences of producing thin and underdeveloped findings with insufficient scope for detailed discussion and articulation of the contribution to knowledge.
