Tysabri and cognition
A small Italian study found that after three years, people with MS taking natalizumab (Tysabri) did better on tests of cognition as well as showing reduced relapse rates and stable EDSS.

Services for neurological conditions
A National Audit Office report criticises the slow take up of the recommendations of the 2012 Public Accounts Committee report on how neurological services should be improved. It notes the lack of integrated health and social care, lack of joint commissioning and the poor progress on giving anyone with a neurological condition a personal care plan.

A small Canadian study using a dice rolling test to test risk found that people with secondary progressive MS had more impairment in their decision making ability than people with relapsing remitting MS.

Cause of cognitive symptoms in MS
A study in Texas has identified that people with MS have weaker connections than healthy controls between the areas of the brain that plan actions and those that carrying out tasks. Accuracy in carrying out tasks was similar in both group but people with MS processed information more slowly.

Ocrelizumab trial results
Two phase III studies of a potential new injected disease modifying drug for relapsing remitting MS show that it "significantly reduced" relapses, new lesions and the build up of disability compared to Rebif. The manufacturer plans to submit the drug for licensing next year. A phase III trial in primary progressive MS is due to report later this year.

Oral v IV steroids for relapses
A new study at 13 centres in France has found no that there was no difference on outcomes whether someone took oral or intravenous steroids to treat relapses.

Ocrelizumab clinical trial results announced

Results after four and half years show that people who started in the beta interferon arm had fewer relapses and less MRI activity after they had switched to fingolimod.
