Abbreviated atovaquone-proguanil prophylaxis regimens in travellers after leaving malaria-endemic areas: A systematic review
We evaluated existing data on the prophylactic efficacy of atovaquone-proguanil (AP) in order to determine whether prophylaxis in travellers can be discontinued on the day of return from a malaria-endemic area instead of seven days after return as per currently recommended post-travel schedule. Zika and travel: Public health implications and communications for blood donors, sperm donors and pregnant women
We are a group of medical students working on a project that examines the public health implications of Zika virus infection acquired during travel. The recent article from Grischott et al. [1] in Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease reviews non-mosquito borne Zika virus (ZIKV) infection, highlights the paradigm shift of this infection from mosquito borne to a multi-mode transmission virus. This situation prompted us to go further to examine Zika “dilemmas” for returning travellers and to evaluate how public health authorities provide information to lay persons with respect to these dilemmas. An extra priming dose of hepatitis A vaccine to adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis and drug induced immunosuppression – A prospective, open-label, multi-center study
Previous studies have indicated that a pre-travel single dose of hepatitis A vaccine is not sufficient as protection against hepatitis A in immunocompromised travelers. We evaluated if an extra dose of hepatitis A vaccine given shortly prior to traveling ensures seroconversion. (Source: Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease)

Time delays in the diagnosis and treatment of malaria in non-endemic countries: A systematic review

Labial lesion in a Portuguese man returned from Brazil – The role of molecular diagnosis
We describe a Portuguese 46-year-old man living in Brazil for the past 21 years that presented a 12-month worsening labial lesion associated with weight loss of 15  kg and dry cough. He lived in Itaipava-Petropolis-Brazil with deficient living conditions after a tropical storm flooded his house one month before the beginning of the symptoms and, due to economic reasons, he was forced to live in a mountain contacting with several animals like capybaras and arm adillos. He returned to Portugal 1 month before admission and was initially evaluated in a stomatology clinic where a biopsy was performed and microscopic examinatio...
