Labial lesion in a Portuguese man returned from Brazil – The role of molecular diagnosis

We describe a Portuguese 46-year-old man living in Brazil for the past 21 years that presented a 12-month worsening labial lesion associated with weight loss of 15  kg and dry cough. He lived in Itaipava-Petropolis-Brazil in deficient living conditions after a tropical storm flooded his house one month before the beginning of the symptoms and, due to economic reasons, he was forced to live in a mountain contacting with several animals like capybaras and armad illos. He returned to Portugal 1 month before admission and was initially evaluated in a stomatology clinic where a biopsy was performed and microscopic examination revealed fungal structures shown in Fig.
