Ethnicity differences in breast cancer stage at the time of diagnosis in norway
Background and aims: Several studies have demonstrated that breast cancer survival rates differ with ethnicity. Most of these studies analyzed discrepancies between African-American and Caucasian-American women and were performed in the United States. There are increasing concerns about differences in breast cancer survival among immigrants from Asia and Africa living in Europe, including those living in Scandinavian countries. There are few data on breast cancer survival in relation to race or ethnicity in Scandinavian countries, even though immigrants from Asia and Africa have lived in Scandinavian countries for decades....

Computed tomography of the thorax for gastric cancer staging: is it necessary?
Conclusion: The rarity of isolated lung metastasis in gastric cancer suggests the limited value of computed tomography thorax as a routine staging tool for gastric cancers. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)

Percutaneous Cholecystostomy is an Effective Definitive Treatment Option for Acute Acalculous Cholecystitis
Conclusion: Percutaneous cholecystostomy is successful as a definitive treatment option in the majority of patients with acute acalculous cholecystitis. It is associated with a low rate of mortality and subsequent cholecystectomy. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)

Bile duct injuries following laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Conclusion: Half of injuries following cholecystectomies are related to the cystic duct, and most of these can be treated with endoscopic or percutaneous procedures. A considerable number of patients following hepaticojejunostomy will later on develop a stricture. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)

Laparoscopic posterior mesh rectopexy for rectal prolapse is a safe procedure in older patients: A prospective follow-up study
Conclusion: Laparoscopic posterior rectopexy is a safe and well-tolerated procedure in older patients and can be done with acceptable complications and recurrence rates and short hospital stays. Laparoscopic posterior rectopexy seems to improve bowel function in many patients. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)

Laparoscopic Complete Mesocolic Excision with Central Vascular Ligation in right colon cancer: long-term oncologic outcome between mesocolic and non-mesocolic planes of surgery
Conclusion: In our experience, minimally invasive complete mesocolic excision with central vascular ligation allows for both safety and higher quality of surgical specimens when compared to less radical intramesocolic or muscularis propria planes of "standard" surgery, significantly impacting loco-regional control and thus overall survival. Comparison of laparoscopic and open colonic resection within fast-track and traditional perioperative care pathways: clinical outcomes and in-hospital costs
Conclusion: Laparoscopy improves the efficiency of fast-track perioperative care without significantly increasing in-hospital costs. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)

Operative Results of Periprosthetic Fractures of The Distal Femur In A Single Academic Unit
Conclusions: Post-operative surgical site complications were relatively common in these mainly elderly female patients. The survival percentages of the re-arthroplasty and laminofixation groups were similar. The use of strut grafts in association with plating may decrease re-operation rate. Operative Treatment of Primary Hyperparathyroidism in Daycare Surgery
Conclusion: Parathyroidectomy in the daycare setting is feasible and safe. However, many patients return to the emergency department. This could be related to the strict information that is provided or due to a large decrease in their calcium levels, albeit normocalcemia. Calcium supplementation is cheap and safe, so we will provide all future patients with calcium supplementation and herewith aim to reduce the amount of emergency department visits. Clinical Assessment of Fluid Balance is Incomplete for Colorectal Surgical Patients
Conclusions: The accordance between cumulated fluid balance and body weight change for colorectal surgical patients is relatively good for the first four postoperative days, however, with large uncertainty, whereas on the fifth and sixth postoperative day, the discrepancy is statistically and clinically significant. The fluid chart cannot stand alone in interpretation of the patient’s fluid balance; body weight and clinical judgment is indispensable. (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Surgery)
