Apolipoprotein A1 distribution pattern in the human Achilles tendon
We examined the distribution of Apo‐A1 protein in biopsies from normal and tendinopathy‐affected human Achilles tendons, and APOA1 mRNA production from cultured human hamstring tenocytes. Specific immunoreactions for Apo‐A1 were detected. The tenocytes showed specific Apo‐A1 immunoreactions. These reactions were usually distinct in the tendinopathy specimens. While the tendinopathy specimens often showed granular/small deposit reactions, the slender tenocytes of control specimens did not show this pattern. The magnitude of Apo‐A1 immunoreactivity was especially marked in the tendinopathy specimens, as there is a ...

Understanding successful and unsuccessful landings of aerial maneuver variations in professional surfing
This study aimed to analyze highly skilled aerial maneuver performance and to identify the critical features associated with successful or unsuccessful landing. Using video recordings of the World Surf League's Championship Tour, every aerial performed during the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final heats from the 11 events in the 2015 season was viewed. From this, 121 aerials were identified with the Frontside Air (n = 15) and Frontside Air Reverse (n = 67) being selected to be qualitatively assessed. Using chi‐squared analyses, a series of key critical features, including landing over the center of the surfboard (FS ...

Exercises of dynamic stability under unstable conditions increase muscle strength and balance ability in the elderly
The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a specific exercise intervention of mechanisms to control dynamic postural stability under unstable conditions in old adults. Forty‐seven old adults (65‐80 years) were assigned to 2 experimental groups (muscle strength group, n = 15; perturbation‐based group, n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). The strength group performed resistance exercises for leg and trunk muscles, while the perturbation‐based group exercised mechanisms of dynamic stability under unstable conditions. The training duration was 14 weeks, with training sessions twice a week fo...

Suppressed heat shock protein response in the kidney of exercise ‐trained diabetic rats
In conclusion, impaired HSP defense seems to contribute to kidney injury vulnerability in diabetes and exercise training does not up‐regulate kidney HSP expression despite the improvements in histopathological and inflammatory markers. Strength and cardiometabolic risk in young adults. The mediator role of aerobic fitness and waist circumference
ConclusionsBoth cardiorespiratory fitness and waist circumference mediate the association between muscular strength and cardiometabolic risk in young adults. Thus, our results place cardiorespiratory fitness and waist circumference as the main targets of physical activity programmes aimed at preventing cardiometabolic diseases. This article is protected by copyright. Cardiorespiratory fitness not sedentary time or physical activity is associated with cardiometabolic risk in active older adults
This study assessed the relationships between ST, MVPA, CRF and cardiometabolic health in highly active older individuals. 125 healthy amateur cyclists aged 55 to 79 years had their ST and MVPA levels assessed by actigraphy over a 7 day period. CRF was assessed using a maximal effort cycle ergometry test to determine VO2max with results normalised to both body mass and fat free mass measured by DXA. Markers of cardiometabolic risk (blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Insulin, HOMA IR, blood pressure and body fat) were assessed and used to determine cumulative cardiometabolic risk. Multiple linear regressio...
