Effects of device-guided slow breathing training on exercise capacity, cardiac function and respiratory patterns during sleep in male and female patients with chronic heart failure.
CONCLUSIONS    SBT improved physical capacity and systolic heart function, it also diminished sleep disturbances. The results support the benefits of SBT as a novel component of cardiorespiratory rehabilitation programs in CHF. Managing challenging patients with venous thromboembolism: a practical, case-based approach.
Authors: Douketis J, Ageno W, Carrier M, Kearon C Abstract The management of patients with venous thromboembolism is a common clinical scenario that, for the most part, involves well-established, evidence-based treatment pathways. However, important unanswered clinical questions remain that are the focus of ongoing research. The aim of this narrative review is to provide a practical, case-based approach to the following clinical scenarios in which therapeutic management pathways are less well established: How long to anticoagulated patients with a first unprovoked venous thromboembolism? How to manage comp...

Age-adjusted plasma D-Dimer levels in suspected acute pulmonary embolism - a retrospective, single center study.
CONCLUSIONS    YADD thresholds are characterized by high sensitivity and increased specificity when compared with CDD, thus allowing for the safe reduction of the number of CT scans. A prospective study should be conducted for further validation. PMID: 28075426 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Polskie Archiwum Medycyny Wewnetrznej)

Evaluation of sudomotor function in adult patients with long lasting type 1 diabetes.
CONCLUSIONS    Diabetic microangiopathy and in particular neuropathy is related to reduced sudomotor function in type 1 diabetes. The longer duration of diabetes, worse metabolic control or reduced renal function, the greater sudomotor dysfunction.
