Measurement of cervical multifidus and longus colli muscles dimensions in patients with cervical radiculopathy and healthy controls using ultrasonography: A reliability study
ConclusionsThe results demonstrated that US appears to be a highly reliable method of measuring deep cervical muscle dimensions when measurements are taken in patients with cervical radiculopathy and healthy controls, by the same investigator. (Source: PMandR)

Proximal Iliotibial Band Syndrome in a Runner: A Case Report
We report a case of a 38-year-old female recreational runner with progressive lateral hip pain and magnetic resonance imaging findings of edema along the gluteal aponeurotic fascia and origin of the tensor fascia lata muscle consistent with the diagnosis of enthesopathy of the proximal iliotibial band. Interdisciplinary Pain Management Improves Pain and Function in Pediatric Patients with Chronic Pain Associated with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome
ConclusionThe present findings suggest that an intensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation pain management program yields short-term improvements in pain, emotional and physical function, and daily activity in a pediatric population diagnosed with joint hypermobility. Parents also experienced benefits from the program. A larger prospective study with longer-term follow-up is needed.Level of evidenceLevel III (Source: PMandR)

Frequency and Characteristics of Recommendations from Interdisciplinary Outpatient Cancer Rehabilitation Monthly Team Meetings
ConclusionsIn contrast to acute inpatient rehabilitation interdisciplinary weekly team meetings required by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, there are no guidelines for outpatient interdisciplinary rehabilitation team meetings. Thus, the types and characteristics of recommendations that a physiatrist can provide during these meetings have not been reported. Regularly scheduled outpatient interdisciplinary cancer rehabilitation team meetings increase communication among rehabilitation specialists to identify outpatients experiencing barriers to therapy progress, provide recommendations to address those barriers, ...

Autonomic dysreflexia as a potential adverse effect of duloxetine and amitriptyline combination therapy: A case report
We present a 31 year-old woman with T3 AIS A spinal cord injury who developed recurrent AD while receiving duloxetine and amitriptyline combination therapy for neuropathic pain. After excluding other AD generators, duloxetine was discontinued and the AD episodes resolved. While secondary hypertension is a known side effect of amitriptyline and duloxetine, neither drug has been previously associated with AD. One potential mechanism for inhibition of duloxetine metabolism is discussed. Unexplained AD in at-risk patients receiving duloxetine and amitriptyline should prompt consideration of an adverse reaction to combination t...

Acute Spinal Epidural Hematoma as a Complication of Dry Needling: A Case Report
Publication date: Available online 21 July 2018Source: PM&RAuthor(s): William A. Berrigan, Curtis Whitehair, Richard ZorowitzAbstractDry needling is a procedure commonly performed for the relief of myofascial pain disorders. The procedure is generally well tolerated. Adverse events often are mild, but severe complications have been reported. This case report describes an acute spinal epidural hematoma as a complication of dry needling. It is a reminder to the performing physician or therapist to take specific precautions when placing a needle near the spine. Sudden onset of neuropathic pain post-needling therapy in and aro...

Walking Stability During Normal Walking And Its Association With Slip Intensity Among Individuals With Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury
ConclusionsIndividuals with iSCI walk with greater stability than AB individuals during unperturbed walking due to a lower self-selected speed, which appears to reduce the intensity of an unexpected slip perturbation.Level of EvidenceLevel III (Source: PMandR)

Female office workers with moderate neck pain have increased anterior positioning of the cervical spine and stiffness of upper trapezius myofascial tissue in sitting posture
ConclusionIn this study female office workers with neck pain had increased anterior positioning of the head and stiffness of the UT muscle in sitting posture, which was not associated with changes in the pressure pain threshold of this muscle.Level of evidenceII (Source: PMandR)

Lumbar Stability in Healthy Individuals and Low Back Pain Patients Quantified by Wall Plank-and-Roll Test
ConclusionsA general lumbar motor pattern was observed during the WPR test in the healthy subjects, but age contributed to variations in this general pattern. Comparison of motor patterns between healthy subjects and low back pain patients revealed a different type of variation in the low back pain patients. The results presented should be scrutinized with further research, characterizing specific variations in different subgroups of low back pain patients.Level of EvidenceIII (Source: PMandR)

Test-retest reliability of dynamic balance performance-based measures among adults with a unilateral lower-limb amputation
ConclusionsThe dynamic balance measures evaluated for use among community-dwelling adults with a unilateral LLA demonstrated excellent reliability, along with high precision of scores and MDC values that did not exceed 10% of testing means. Either best or average scoring may be used when administering the majority of these tests, as long as the assessment method is appropriately documented and replicated at follow-up to allow direct comparisons. With the FSST, clinicians should consider taking the average of two FSST trials. (Source: PMandR)

Pharmacologic Treatment for Depression at Injury Is Associated With Fewer Clinician Visits for Persistent Symptoms After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Medical Record Review Study
ConclusionsDepressed individuals who were pharmacologically treated for depression at the time of TBI had significantly fewer clinician visits for persistent postinjury symptoms than those not pharmacologically treated for depression at the time of injury. Routine depression screening in patients with a high risk for TBI may identify a mood disorder that could contribute to persistent symptoms if left untreated, with its effective management potentially reducing health-related costs.Level of EvidenceIII (Source: PMandR)

Myocardial Infarction Injury in Patients with Chronic Lung Disease Entering Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Frequency and Association with Heart Rate Parameters
ConclusionsCLD patients entering pulmonary rehabilitation are at risk of unreported prior MI. Elevated resting heart rate seems to be an indicator of prior MI in CLD patients; therefore, careful adjustment of training intensity such as intermittent training is recommended under these circumstances.Level of evidenceIII (Source: PMandR)
